This Is What An Aging Population Looks Like (Suzie G.)

Births peaked in the U.S. at 4.32 million in 2007 and declined for five years before leveling off recently. Some 3.96 million babies were born in the U.S. last year, according to preliminary data from the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention.

Detroit Clears Crucial Hurdle on Bankruptcy (thc0655)

In one indication of the significance of the deal, representatives from Syncora and Detroit called for an immediate two-day adjournment in the trial, which began Sept. 2 and was expected to run well into October. The pause was needed, the new court filings said, to work out conditions and logistics of the deal, adding that “if this agreement is finalized within this time period as we expect, it will profoundly alter the course of the proceeding and the litigation plans of the remaining parties.”

The U.S. spends more on defense than the next eight countries combined (jdargis)

We currently spend more on defense than the next 8 countries combined. Defense spending accounts for about 20 percent of all federal spending — nearly as much as Social Security, or the combined spending for Medicare and Medicaid. The sheer size of the defense budget suggests that it should be part of any serious effort to address America's long-term fiscal challenges.

Learning to Love the Fed's Bubbles Is Our Only Choice (Adam)

Paul apparently thinks that bubbles are not really a problem if you are not at 'full employment,' because they might be stimulus. Oh boy, what do you mean 'full employment?' Does that mean everyone who wants a shit job without benefits at a below poverty level wage can have one is 'full employment?'

Or does 'full employment' mean a robust economic environment where people are obtaining jobs that pay living wages for families that keep up with inflation and provide affordable health benefits sufficient to keep them from falling into bankruptcy if anyone in their family sustains a serious illness?

Moral Hazard: The Abysmal Failure of the Doctrine Of Selective Justice In Finance (thc0655)

As an aside, when I saw the new 'reform President' bringing in Timothy Geithner, Hank Paulsen, and Larry Summers to key posts in his administration, I suspected that the people's mandate for reform had been deflected, although there was the prior example of FDR bringing in Joe Kennedy to spearhead the SEC. But, alas, Obama quickly turned out to be no Franklin Roosevelt, but a loyal member of the Wall Street wing of the Democratic Party.

Wanted: A Farmer (Don R.)

Agricultural history can be written in a few words: displace love of farming with love of money. Displace farmstead homes with high rises jutting into the sky or hovels sprawling in the ghettos, where the displaced are forced to live while utterly dependent on money for food and water. Displace fertile soil with compacted surfaces for large machinery to speed over or for huge reservoirs of water to keep the displaced people in their snaggle-toothed high rise chimneys or dilapidated ghetto sheds alive enough to do the work.

CO2 surge drove greenhouse gas levels to new high in 2013 - WMO (jdargis)

The second most important greenhouse gas, methane, continued to grow at a similar rate to the last five years, reaching a global average of 1824 parts per billion (ppb). The other main contributor, nitrous oxide, reached 325.9 ppb, growing at a rate comparable to the average over the past decade.

The world has the knowledge and tools to keep global warming within 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit), a U.N. goal set in 2010, Jarraud said, which would "give our planet a chance and... our children and grandchildren a future".

Printable solar panels, developed by CSIRO and Melbourne universities, one step closer to market (Wendy SD)

Australian solar power scientists are one step closer to making available a cheaper and faster way to print solar cells onto plastic. CSIRO's senior research scientist Dr Fiona Scholes said the technology was almost at the commercialisation stage and could be used to power laptops to rooftops. "iPad covers, laptop bags, skins of iPhone - not just for casing
electronics but to collect some energy as well and power those
electronics," Dr Scholes said.

Safe lithium batteries with a long service life (Arthur Robey)

After numerous measurements and simulations, the scientists managed to understand the batteries' behavior and to describe it mathematically. The model not only encompasses the batteries' electrical behavior, but also their mechanical and thermal behavior. The simulations enabled to scientists to find out how the new batteries' output and energy content are affected when the batteries are used to stabilize power networks or regulate frequencies, for example.

Net Metering: Affordable Solar Panels that Actually Pay You (Tyler K.)

Luckily, there are ways a solar-power system can help us save money — even while we’re still living on the grid.

Not only that, but solar saves our planet, too. It is a clean energy that doesn’t pollute our air with lung-damaging emissions. And it’s infinitely renewable! Plus, solar use increases our energy independence.

Carbon dioxide accumulates as seas and forests struggle to absorb (Suzie G.)

Scientists said they were puzzled and extremely concerned by prospect of reduced absorption of the world’s oceans and plants, which they cannot explain and which threatens to accelerate the build-up of heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere if the trend continues.

BP May Owe Anglers $585 Million After Oil Spill (James S.)

Anglers fishing from shore and those that hire fishing guides lost the most—an average of $29.65 and $34.27 per trip, perhaps because they are less able to change their fishing conditions. Those who pilot their own boats lost the least at $2.23 per trip. Private and rental boat users were affected differently, some substantially but others not much.

The analysis is based on data collected from interviews with saltwater anglers by NOAA’s Marine Recreational Information Program, which regularly surveys anglers on their catch. Each year approximately 40 million trips are taken in the US Southeast.

A horrific staged event, blamed on an enemy...

I remember watching the classic movie, The Sting, with Robert Redford and Paul Newman and wondering why people were deceived by their shenanigans.  The con men set up a situation, then allowed the "marks" natural instincts to impel them to do the thing that the con men desired.  This continues to be effective UNTIL THE MARK UNDERSTANDS THE WAY THE SCAM WORKS.  Then it is suddenly ineffective.

I am very happy to say that the PP crowd is unusually sophisticated in these matters.  It is in this spirit that I am posting this link to George Washington's blog on the history of false flag attack in shaping public opinion, election outcomes and starting wars for profit.  False flags are a universally employed strategy:  The USA, Israel, NATO, Russia, China....  everyone seems to love this deception technique.

Americans Are Finally Learning About False Flag Terror by George Washington.

A couple of the many examples he includes:

1.  Soviet leader  Nikita Khrushchev admitted in writing that the Soviet Union’s Red Army shelled [its own village], the Russian village of Mainila in 1939, and declared that the fire originated from Finland as a basis launching the Winter War four days later.

2.  A major with the Nazi SS admitted at the Nuremberg trials that – under orders from the chief of the Gestapo – he and some other Nazi operatives faked attacks on their own people and resources which they blamed on the Poles, to justify the invasion of Poland.

3.   Nazi general Franz Halder also testified at the Nuremberg trials that Nazi leader Hermann Goering admitted to setting fire to the German parliament building, and then falsely blaming the communists for the arson.  Emergency police powers were declared "because of the attack" and about 10,000 political enemies (communist and other political dissidents) were imprisoned over the next 2 weeks.

Each person must form his own opinion on whether a specific attack is a false flag.  And when the entire military-industrial-intellegence-media complex is dedicated to sustaining the myth, information can be hard to sort through.

Understanding the mechanism and ubiquity of this deception technique greatly reduces its effectiveness.

Ukraine, RussiaChina, SDRs, and the death of the dollar

Here's a new voice in the blogosphere who presents himself as someone with unique (insider) information on the death of the dollar and the transition to the SDR:

http://philosophyofmetrics.com/2014/09/11/everything-will-be-sdr-compliant/

Check out his ten-part series on the death of the dollar and the transition to the SDR:

I'm still trying to assess the credibility and accuracy of this anonymous voice and on whose "team" he may be playing.  I would appreciate any of you weighing in.  Much of what he says is publicly available.  Some of it synchronizes with what Jim Rickards has written and spoken about in The Death of Money and elsewhere.  But he goes FAR beyond all that and thinks Dec 2014 - Jan 2015 will be crucial because the US is expected to ratify the 2010 Governance Reforms of the IMF by then.

Wish I could vote your post up more.

I went out for a drink last night with my new fire station colleagues. I was wearing my 9/11 inside job tee shirt. I was in their company, about 15 of them, for over 2 hours, and not one of them even commented on the tee shirt or 9/11 in general. I am angry!

I like the Tony Rooke quote regarding 9/11 and I think I will get another tee shirt printed up with his words. "If you dont do something about the official lies of 9/11 then you might as well go to your nearest war memorial and piss on it"

Keep fighting SP.
