Bailout Architect Runs For California Governor; World Laughs (westcoastjan)

Kashkari was not just a former Goldman banker handed a high government post – he was a former Goldman banker handed a high government post by a former Goldman banker, in this case former Goldman CEO and then-Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson.

Neel was also the human parallel to the original TARP proposal written by Paulson, which was famously just three pages long.

Bank of America Head Technician: "Our Bullish View Is Invalidated, Going Neutral; Below 1806 Spells Trouble" (sand_puppy)

nxiety across markets has reached a n/term extreme. The trends of the past few days/weeks are set to correct, but not turn... The break of 1809.50 has invalidated our bullish view, but we ARE NOT BEARISH, JUST NEUTRAL. Going forward, we expect an 1805.75/1846.50 range trade before an eventual resumption of the larger bull trend. Below 1805.75 spells trouble, but bears only gain control on a close below 1767.75. See the chart for equivalent cash levels.

JPMorgan's Gold Vault Has Biggest One-Day Withdrawal Ever (sand_puppy)

Something tells us the next few days will see matching withdrwawals from JPM's gold vault, which at last check was officially owned by the Chinese.

And for those wondering how JPM's total gold holdings look over time here it is...

HSBC imposes restrictions on large cash withdrawals (westcoastjan)

Mr Cotton says the staff refused to tell him how much he could have: "So I wrote out a few slips. I said, 'Can I have £5,000?' They said no. I said, 'Can I have £4,000?' They said no. And then I wrote one out for £3,000 and they said, 'OK, we'll give you that.' "

He asked if he could return later that day to withdraw another £3,000, but he was told he could not do the same thing twice in one day.

The FT Goes There: "Demand Physical Gold" As One Day Paper Price Manipulation Will End "Catastrophically" (Thomas C.)

Last month Jens Weidmann, Bundesbank president, admitted that just 37 tons had arrived in Frankfurt. The original timescale, to complete the transfer by 2020, was leisurely enough, but at this rate it would take 20 years for a simple operation. Well, perhaps not so simple. While he awaits delivery, Herr Weidmann is welcome to come and look through the bars in the Federal Reserve’s vaults, but the question is: whose bars are they?

Advertising Standards Canada: No Sanctions For False Government Ads (westcoastjan)

Both Global News and PostMedia News have revealed that Advertising Standards Canada, the "national, not-for-profit, advertising self-regulatory body," chided the government for the misleading ads, which were in heavy rotation last spring — including during pricey NHL playoff telecasts.

The Elders of Organic Farming (jdargis)

The agrarian elders, as they were called, were invited to Esalen because the organizers of the event wanted to document what these rock stars of the sustainable food movement knew and to discuss an overriding concern: How will they be able to retire and how will they pass their knowledge to the next generation?

B.C.'s Gas Towns and Projects (westcoastjan)

In early 2013 Chevron Corp. bought out EOG Resources and Calgary-based Encana Corp. to establish itself as managing operator and 50 per cent owner of this 463-kilometre pipeline with Apache Corp. The project has obtained an export licence and has been approved to extend from Summit Lake to the Kitimat LNG export facility to transport natural gas to Asian markets. However, the project has recently had difficulty securing some sales contracts in Asia because buyers are pushing for deals linked to distressed North American gas prices. Apache and Chevron have argued higher prices are needed to justify the large building costs. Construction was intended to start summer 2013 but the B.C. Environmental Assessment Office has given a 2018 extension.
