U.K. Tells Supermarkets to Maximize Stockpiles Before Brexit (Sparky1)

Separately, the Department of Health said in a letter Friday it expects up to six months of “significantly reduced access” especially on shorter shipping routes in the event of a no-deal Brexit. It didn’t give specifics on what businesses should do to prepare, though it said “six-week stockpiling activities remain a critical part of our contingency plans.”

The Comprehensive Guide to Quitting Google (newsbuoy)

Google, Apple, Microsoft, and other similar companies offer “ecosystems”—centralized, cross-platform software and hardware suites where all your devices can connect and sync with the same data and apps.

These ecosystems are extremely convenient, but they can pose security risks. While centralization isn’t the issue, per se, things get sketchy when the entity overseeing that ecosystem starts dipping into your data or manipulating your experience.

Why you can’t afford a home (Afridev)

The average Briton is only ever about two sentences away from discussing house prices. Why? Because the British land market is utterly dysfunctional. When Thatcher resuscitated the idea of a ‘property owning democracy’, not even she could have imagined the scale of inequality that those three words would drive. So, we ask how did we get here and why, in the world’s fifth largest economy, can so few people afford to buy their own home? Ross Ashcroft is joined by the Valuation Specialist at the Bank of England, Dean Buckner, and writer and economist Josh-Ryan Collins.

Ammon Bundy Is Quitting The Militia Movement After Breaking With Trump On Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric (Sparky1)

The militia groups, with members holding a mix of right-wing, anti-government, and conspiratorial views, had been growing since 2008 thanks to their heavy use of social media and binding opposition to then-president Barack Obama. The standoffs in 2014 and 2016 made the Bundy family, including Ammon, leading figures in the movement.

The FBI says the Proud Boys are not an extremist group after all (Sparky1)

“Our focus is not on membership in particular groups but on individuals who commit violence and criminal activity that constitutes a federal crime or poses a threat to national security,” a statement distributed by spokeswoman Kelsey Pietranton in November said. “When it comes to domestic terrorism, our investigations focus solely on criminal activity of individuals — regardless of group membership — which appears to be intended to intimidate or coerce the civilian population or influence the policy of the government by intimidation or coercion. The FBI does not and will not police ideology.”

Dow 10,000 (thc0655)

Warren Buffett’s favorite yardstick for valuing stocks measures the relationship of total market capitalization (the value of all stocks added together) to GDP. The ratio should be well below 100%. Stocks cannot be worth much more than the GDP of the country that supports them.

But this ratio is now as high as it’s ever been – it’s about even with the top of the great bubble market of 1999.

The West Slips Down Another Step (Matt H.)

The Integrity Initiative is one of many. We had, and still have, the Legatum Institute which worried about "Russian disinformation" back in 2013, a pair of British thinktankers two years later also worried about "Russia's information warfare in the UK". Then it was time for "hybrid war", a supposed Russian invention. The so-called intelligence assessment (of "all 17 agencies", but actually a hand-picked group from only three, one of which only had "moderate confidence") on Russian hacking devoted nearly half its space to a four-year old rant about RT!

Solar arrays spark neighbors’ outrage (DennisC)

“The structure is huge,” Betty Masi of Canterbury Lane told the selectmen. “It’s not something you see in a residential neighborhood. It’s factory-like.”

“We’re used to seeing horse and horse farm,” said Greg Dellacorte of Canterbury Lane. “This is very industrial looking.”

Texas and New Mexico shale basins hold 49 years worth of oil: USGS (Sparky1)

Survey results "demonstrate the impact that improved technologies such as hydraulic fracturing and directional drilling have had on increasing the estimates," said Walter Guidroz, an official in the USGS Energy Resources Program. Hydraulic fracturing forces water and sand underground at high pressure to free oil and gas trapped in shale rock.

Did Dow Chemical Fake Safety Studies on Brain-Damaging Chlorpyrifos? (newsbuoy)

On September 24, the EPA—the agency charged with protecting us from environmental contaminants—asked the courts to rehear the case. The move means that chlorpyrifos is still being used while the request for a rehearing plays out in the courts. Organic Consumers Association is collecting signatures on a petition to the EPA, asking the agency to rescind its request for a rehearing, and ban chlorpyrifos now.

Russia did it

France to Probe Possible Russian Influence on Yellow Vest Riots (MSN)

"France opened a probe into possible Russian interference behind the country’s Yellow Vest protests, after reports that social-media accounts linked to Moscow have increasingly targeted the movement.

According to the Alliance for Securing Democracy, about 600 Twitter accounts known to promote Kremlin views have begun focusing on France, boosting their use of the hashtag #giletsjaunes, the French name for the Yellow Vest movement. French security services are looking at the situation, Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Sunday in a radio interview with RTL.

Russia has been criticized for using social media to influence elections in the U.S. and elsewhere. Attempts to use fake news reports and cyberattacks to undercut the 2017 campaign of French President Emmanuel Macron failed, but Russian-linked sites have pushed questionable reports of a mutiny among police, and of officers’ support for the protests."

Keeping the Sheeple Confused, Avoiding the Backlash

My ruminations on this whole yellow vest backlash thing.... (I have not yet read Chris' article posted today, but will in just a moment!)

The oligarchy, also called The Global Dominance Group of Peter Phillips, or The Higher Circle Policy Elites (HCPE) of Michael Soref)  that has been plundering the commons will now attempt to escape backlash from the furious plundered.  They wish to avoid the ....

France opened a probe into possible Russian interference behind the country’s Yellow Vest protests, after reports that social-media accounts linked to Moscow have increasingly targeted the movement.

According to the Alliance for Securing Democracy, [SP--a Neocon group focused on explaining all resistance to TPTB as due to Russia] about 600 Twitter accounts known to promote Kremlin views have begun focusing on France.

The Manchean Philosophy / Religion is amazingly simple:

There is a cosmic battle filling the universe where the forces of Good battle Evil.  It is played out in human history, but the scope of this battle fills the cosmos and all of eternity.

The great majority of our superhero and action hero movies fplay in this Manchean mind space.  We cheer as our heros kick the butts of the unmistakably evil "scumbag" despicables.  It is a simple and powerful mindset.  The identification with Good and the fight against Evil unites and motivates!

--------

Leo Strauss (here, para 5) explained to his followers who aspire to rule the world:

Nations derive their strength from their myths which need not have a relationship with historical reality, but must be widely presumed to be true.

To be effective, national myths must be based on a clear distinction between good and evil; they create social coherence from the shared hatred of an enemy.  (Strauss uses the Manchean viewpoint.)

From the interview on Strauss by Shadia Drury, a Canadian academic who spent her career studying Leo Strauss.  She explains where Strauss is coming from.  This includes hiding from backlash by using anonymity (leading from the shadows):

The natural order of inequality

The ancient philosophers whom Strauss most cherished believed that the unwashed masses were not fit for either truth or liberty ... Human beings are born neither free nor equal. The natural human condition, they held, is not one of freedom, but of subordination.  [T]here is a natural order of domination and subordination.

Justice

Strauss shares the insights of the wise Plato (alias Thrasymachus) that justice is merely the interest of the stronger; that those in power make the rules in their own interests and call it “justice.”

The Reasons for Lying and Secrecy

A second fundamental belief of Strauss… has to do with the need for secrecy and the necessity of lies.  He argues that the wise must conceal their views for two reasons – to spare the people’s feelings and to protect the elite from possible reprisals.

1.  The people will not be happy to learn that there is only one natural right – the right of the superior to rule over the inferior, the master over the slave, the husband over the wife, and the wise few over the vulgar many.

2.  the ancients were determined to keep this tyrannical teaching secret because the people are not likely to tolerate the fact that they are intended for subordination; indeed, they may very well turn their resentment against the superior few. Lies are thus necessary to protect the superior few from the persecution of the vulgar many.

The effect of Strauss’s teaching is to convince his acolytes that they are the natural ruling elite and the persecuted few… that they have a moral justification to lie.

What makes the “superior person” superior?

Strauss thinks that the superiority of the ruling philosophers is an intellectual superiority (not a moral one).  This is "might makes right" at the intellectual level.

Nafeez Ahmed and Diana Ralph review the origins of the "War on Terror" propaganda framework sold to, and embraced by, world leaders at the Jerusalem Conference of International Terrorism in 1979.  Ahmed explains, that it was decided that all international terrorism comes from a single source, the USSR.  Thus they created the perfect evil enemy, Russia, for their Manchean world view and set up the next decades of myth making.

Quoting Ahmed:

"…a group of powerful elites from various countries gathered at an international conference in Jerusalem to promote and exploit the idea of ‘international terrorism.’ The (Jerusalem) conference (on International Terrorism, or JCIT) established the ideological foundations for the ‘war on terror.’ JCIT’s defining theme was that international terrorism constituted an organized political movement whose ultimate origin was in the Soviet UnionAll terrorist groups were ultimately products of, and could be traced back to, this single source, which-according to the JCIT-provided financial, military, and logistical assistance to disparate terrorist movements around the globe."

So, when it is time to sharpen our blades, we must watch for the man behind the curtain.  The  person leading from the number 2 position, not always the evil King him or herself.

The assistant director of S.H.E.I.L.D., Robert Redford, above.

I don't have specific information about the origins of Macron, but his dramatic rise suggests powerful backers whom he serves.  I appreciate DaveF's comments on this, above.
