Steroids Can Be Lifesaving for Covid-19 Patients, Scientists Report (jdargis)

The new studies include an analysis that pooled data from seven randomized clinical trials evaluating three steroids in more than 1,700 patients. The study concluded that each of the three drugs reduced the risk of death.

JAMA published that paper and three related studies, along with an editorial describing the research as an “important step forward in the treatment of patients with Covid-19.”

Coronavirus vaccine trial begun by drug firms GSK and Sanofi (tmn)

“The initiation of our clinical study is an important step and brings us closer to a potential vaccine which could help defeat Covid-19”, said Thomas Triomphe, executive vice president and global head of Sanofi Pasteur.

“Our dedicated teams and partner continue to work around the clock as we aim to deliver first results in early December. Positive data will enable a prompt start of the pivotal phase 3 trial by the end of this year”.

A boy’s bicycle was stolen just nine days before his birthday. Then this local detective stepped in to help.

These Black Holes Shouldn’t Exist, but There They Are (JK)

“Another discovery from the worldwide gravitational-wave detector network that rewrites what we know about our universe,” Zsuzsanna Marka, an astrophysicist at Columbia University who works on LIGO, wrote in an email.

Janna Levin, a cosmologist at Barnard College who is not part of the LIGO group, added: “Yes! I’ve been waiting for something like this since I first became interested in gravitational waves.”

Facebook will ban new political ads a week before Election Day (tmn)

The tech giant will also remove posts containing misinformation about both COVID-19 and voting — the strongest step it’s yet taken to curb misinformation on the virus. It will attach a link to authoritative information about COVID-19 to posts that might use COVID-19 to discourage voting.

If any candidate or campaign tries to declare victory before the final results are in, the company says it will add a label to their posts, directing users to official results as reported by Reuters.

ConEd may sell pipeline stakes as it reconsiders gas transmission investments (Bill M.)

Dominion Energy Inc., which is targeting net-zero emissions by 2050, recently agreed to sell its gas transmission and storage business to Berkshire Hathaway Energy for over $9.7 billion. A driving force behind that decision was Virginia’s Clean Energy Economy Act enacted in April, according to Dennis Sperduto, principal analyst with Regulatory Research Associates, a group within S&P Global Market Intelligence.

“Legislation … requires 100% of the power sold to Appalachian Power Co.’s customers to be sourced from renewables by 2050 and 100% of the power sold to Dominion electric utility subsidiary Virginia Electric and Power Co.’s customers to be sourced from renewables by 2045,” Sperduto wrote Aug. 20.

Soon, the Kitty Litter Will Come by Electric Truck (Bill M.)

The rush to electrify, prompted by concern about climate change, a chance to offset growing delivery costs, government regulation and big advances in battery technology, is occurring as the coronavirus pandemic has caused a huge spike in package delivery. UPS, for instance, was delivering up to 21.1 million packages a day in the second quarter, a nearly 23 percent jump in average daily U.S. volume from a year earlier. Avery Vise, vice president for trucking at FTR Transportation Intelligence, said big increases in delivery truck orders hadn’t shown up yet, but they’re very likely coming.

Paint it black: Efficacy of increased wind turbine rotor blade visibility to reduce avian fatalities (Bill M.)

Applying contrast painting to the rotor blades significantly reduced the collision risk for a range of birds. Painting the rotor blades at operational turbines was, however, resource demanding given that they had to be painted while in‐place. However, if implemented before construction, this cost will be minimized. It is recommended to repeat this experiment at other sites to ensure that the outcomes are generic at various settings.

    Gates is evil

The United Nations has been forced to admit that a major international vaccine initiative is actually causing a deadly outbreak of the very disease it was supposed to wipe-out.

While international organisations like the World Health Organization (WHO) will regularly boast about ‘eradicating polio’ with vaccines—the opposite seems to be the case, with vaccines causing the deaths of scores of young people living in Africa.

Health officials have now admitted that their plan to stop ‘wild’ polio is backfiring, as scores children are being paralyzed by a deadly strain of the pathogen derived from a live vaccine – causing a virulent wave of polio to spread.

Here's a more honest and reliable report of the polio outbreaks in Africa.  However, it requires that readers try to understand that the outbreaks are far less severe than the pandemic would be in the absence of polio vaccine.  There are problems with the global polio eradication program, but the WHO and other groups and nations are working hard to block the spread and further the eradication program.

Of course trying to understand the science is more difficult than shouting that Bill Gates is evil.  This is the kind of crud that needs to be dealt with by site management.

The incredible corruption of the World Health Organization

Here's a more honest and reliable report of the polio outbreaks in Africa. However, it requires that readers try to understand that the outbreaks are far less severe than the pandemic would be in the absence of polio vaccine. There are problems with the global polio eradication program, but the WHO and other groups and nations are working hard to block the spread and further the eradication program.

Right, so if it comes from the suspects themselves, then it's "more honest and reliable", sure. I'm sure they are doing their best to eradicate polio and cease benefitting from that program and pathogen, that's why its leader is who he is... but I bet you don't know and don't care about who he is. But I'm here to tell you anyway.

The head of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (let's call him TAG), a shameless sellout to the Chinese Communist Party, has pretty much the worst history any supposedly respected leader in the West could possibly have. He was the 3rd most important member of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), a violent communist revolutionary party which was listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government in the 1990's, which came to power in Ethiopia in 1991. As John Martin explains and as Paul Joseph Watson summarizes, Tedros Adhanom's violent Marxist-Leninist revolutionary communist party engaged in systematic discrimination and human rights abuses — including genocide. The TPLF government denied emergency medical treatment to the Amhara ethnic group, due to their affiliation with the opposition party. Amhara birth rates were officially reported to have been lowered, and 2 million Amhara people “disappeared” from the subsequent population census.

TAG covered up cholera outbreaks in Ethiopia in 2006, 2009, and 2011, by passing them off as “acute watery diarrhea,” a symptom of cholera. Dr. Adhanom is even "accused of personally overseeing the extradition of dissidents who were later imprisoned and tortured" after he was appointed foreign minister in 2012. In 2016, the Ethiopian government wanted to appropriate some land for themselves, attempting to forcefully relocate 15000 people in the Oromia region, which led to "mass protests followed by mass shootings and a stampede that killed 500 people according to Human Rights Watch". Of course, TAG denies all this, and apparently that's all it takes.

Once he got his position at the WHO with the help of China, Adhanom shamelessly appointed fellow mass murderer Robert Mugabe of Uganda to be a “goodwill ambassador” to the WHO, and defended Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya, "under whose government 1,300 people were killed following rigged elections".

As Martin writes to conclude his great exposé of Dr. Adhanom:

The serious misallocation of funds by the organization was made most apparent in 2016 when it was found that the WHO spent $200 million a year on travel expenses, not even including those paid for by the host country. Another absolutely damning report issued by the Associated Press, reported that WHO employees working to relieve the Cholera epidemic in Yemen had actually siphoned off the funds for officials. Some of these workers were later not even removed from their jobs.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation played a large role in promoting Tedros. After their large investments into healthcare programs in Ethiopia which Tedros had facilitated, the foundation was keen to promote similar programs on a global level and donated billions to the WHO towards this end.

The appointment of someone as deeply unqualified as Tedros owes much to the labyrinthine structure of the WHO’s appointment process. The director is selected by the executive board, who are in turn appointed by a rotating minority of the World Health Assembly who are made up of health ministers appointed by world governments. The WHO therefore has the same problem as many other global institutions, that its director is an appointee of an appointee of an appointee of someone who may have been elected legitimately. So by the time you get to the director, the democratic mandate has been so thinly stretched as to be almost meaningless.

The media of course portrayed Tedros as a saintly figure on a moral mission to cure the world of deadly diseases. A twitter campaign slogan ran with “it’s time for an African to lead the WHO”. Indeed, one only wishes it hadn’t been an African in a regime that had spent the last few years killing and resettling more Africans than almost any other.

Some outlets have pointed out that the director general has little power over actual policy in the WHO, this misses the point that the organization is accepted as a global authority on matters of health, and advises world governments. The mismanagement of the WHO through people like Tedros has totally exacerbated the global coronavirus pandemic. Not only did Tedros find every opportunity to praise the CCP’s handling of the crisis even as doctors were being arrested and people welded inside their homes; he also gave completely contradictory advice. First saying that countries should not restrict travel to and from China so as not to be discriminatory, and then chiding them for not doing enough to prepare. The virus was only named a pandemic a few days ago at the time of writing, after infecting 140 countries which is 70 more than it took for Swine flu to be declared a pandemic.

If there was ever an example of the failure of globalised institutions, the WHO is it. I’m not here to say that the organisation has not done any good in the world, but the sheer scale of its mismanagement means that it’s advice should not carry anywhere near the weight that it does. Instead of advising tech companies on how to censor information, it should be radically reformed or simply disbanded.

In a sane world, instead of leading a global organisation, Tedros and his cronies would be put on trial at the International Criminal Court, tried for his crimes, and if found guilty, should spend the rest of his life in prison.

Yet, governments around the world continue to present this dangerous character and the organization he heads as somehow still being legitimate "health authorities" that we ought to listen to and even obey the mandates of. Many even selectively follow some of the WHO's guidelines but not various others such as those which would reduce governments' newly acquired intrusive power (e.g. to adopt Sweden's no-lockdown as the default strategy, or that asymptomatic transmission is rarer than we first thought).

Despite the WHO's criminally-negligent blunders, weeks into the pandemic, that likely led to the preventable deaths of tens of thousands of people, social media platforms such as YouTube/Google continue to present the WHO as the "official" unquestionable "health authority" to whose edicts we ought to submit, and if you question them, you're liable to being censored as a "conspiracy theorist" with "medically unsubstantiated claims". As Leo Goldstein generously put it, "Google and Facebook adhered to WHO on everything related to COVID-19. Together with Twitter, they purged information favorable to HCQ. This is outrageous behavior for telecommunications and computational services providers."

“Now any content that disputes the existence or transmission of COVID-19, as described by the WHO and local health authorities, is in violation of YouTube policies,” a company spokesman is quoted as saying in a statement. This despite the WHO initially parroting the CCP's initial line that there was no evidence of human-to-human transmission, a characteristic of a pathogen that is key to recognizing its pandemic potential and to prevent its spread. So if one had said at the time that it was in fact transmissible in this way, YouTube, referencing the corrupt and fraudulent WHO, would have censored independent researchers.

And you're defending the WHO/Gates/Big Pharma/MSM when they maim and kill people with vaccines? Beyond unbelievable!
