Barcelona attack suspect still sought as investigation expands to other countries (TS)

Hours after the Barcelona attack, police shot dead five men wearing fake explosive belts in the resort of Cambrils, further down the coast, after they rammed holidaymakers with a car and stabbed others, killing one woman.

A seven-year-old British-Australian boy, Julian Cadman, was confirmed on Sunday as one of 13 killed in the Barcelona attack.

Unmasking the leftist Antifa movement (thc0655)

Many of those arrested identified themselves as part of the Antifa movement. Its name derives from “anti-fascist,” and it has come to represent what experts who track these organizations call the “hard left” — an ideology that runs afield of the Democratic Party platform and supports oppressed populations as it protests the amassing of wealth by corporations and elites.

Finland knife attacker ‘targeted women’ (TS)

The Briton is believed to have sustained minor injuries. A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokeswoman said: “Our staff have offered support to a British man following an incident in Finland.”

The suspect arrived in Finland in 2016 and had been “part of the asylum process”, police said.

Illinois Senate passes measure calling for neo-Nazis to be classified as terror groups (Jen H.)

“It is vital that we stand in total opposition to the hatred, bigotry and violence displayed by the white nationalist and neo-Nazi groups in Charlottesville this past weekend,” said state Sen. Don Harmon (D), who sponsored the measure.

The Entire Medical Industry Is About to Change (Tiffany D.)

Through closely examining our individual DNA and trillions of bytes of collected data, doctors can precisely identify what is wrong with a patient. What’s more, the doctor can tailor the patient’s treatment to their specific strain of an ailment.

Precision medicine aims to end the broad, one-size-fits-all medicine that we’ve suffered under for centuries.

Get out of the office, see the eclipse (jdargis)

Having been fortunate enough to have been in California for a partial eclipse in 1994, I can assure you it really is memorable. There’s something about the light that’s a bit surreal: dimmed as if by a sunset, but without the orange cast and coming from overhead. Even though my conscious brain was completely aware of what was going on, my unconscious one was constantly yelling “hey, something’s not right here” at it.

Could The Tech Behind Bitcoin Help Stabilize Oil Prices? (Michael K.)

One of the largest impacts that this technology may have on the banking industry, however, is the “Know your customer” process in which banks identify their clients with the goal of preventing money laundering, corruption and terrorism. The financial sector spends anywhere between $60-million and $500-million each year to remain compliant with these regulations. Because a blockchain is public ledger, the transactions are more transparent, allowing information to be accessed more easily and without a long turn around.

A New Clinical Trial Shows Potential Long-Term Relief From Peanut Allergies (jdargis)

Peanut allergies affect somewhere between 0.6 and 1 percent of the US population, making it the most common allergens in the United States, more than milk or shellfish. Reactions to peanut exposure by someone with an allergy varies, but can be as relatively harmless as itchiness or, in the most extreme cases, as bad as anaphylaxis, which can be fatal. Children are disproportionately allergic to peanuts, perhaps because some 20 percent of those with peanut allergies as a child eventually grow out of it, to some degree.

CHS: A malleable populace at false war with itself

Snap out of it, America: you’re being played.

The core strategy here is the destruction of any common ground: once the delusion that there is no common ground left, … the populace fragments … [becoming] easily manipulated by the political-financial power structure.
Rather than recognize the commonality of their powerlessness and impoverishment, the fragmented fiefdoms are easily turned on each other … [and] … their power to reverse the extreme concentrations of wealth and power is shattered.

There have always been zealots and extremists.  But in a healthy population they are recognized as outliers and as a minority.
When the extremists define the positions and people feel they must choose sides, this produces a fragmented and malleable populace at ‘false war’ with itself.

Produced in 1-9-7-6 ! ! !  Could have been this year.  All the issues he mentions are happening right now.
BUT, we apparently are going to keep taking it because we’ve been taking it since at least 1976.  sad
And of course The System co-opted him:
