Back to Basics – Gold, Silver, and the Economy (GE Christenson)
Gold, silver, and the national debt have increased exponentially since Nixon severed the link between the dollar and gold in 1971. All three will continue to rise. Gold and silver will occasionally rally too far and crash, while the national debt will increase until politicians no longer enjoy spending other people’s money.
"Major Shocks Will Become The Norm From Now On" (westcoastjan)
I think people could benefit by keeping a closer eye on what the smart money is doing and how they’re doing it. I get lots of questions from people about the direction of the market and if the short and mid-term is going to go lower, is it going to do this or that. But nobody knows the answers to those questions. You can only look at what the smart money is doing and somewhat reflect that into your own life. So at this point the smart money owns tons of gold. They own the mining shares also, and they’re adding to their positions in a very significant way. I think they’re adding to positions with long-term expectation, and thus I think by focusing on the long-term and by focusing on what the smart money is doing, can really help people.

The Costa Rica-based entity, which operates a hugely popular online currency system outside of the control of national governments, is charged with running a "$6 billion money laundering scheme and operating an unlicensed money transmitting business," the US Attorney's office for New York said.
OECD: Europe's Recession Threatens Entire Global Economy (Nervous Nelly)
The U.S. economy will continue to outpace Europe, the OECD said, with growth of 1.9 percent in 2013 and 2.8 percent in 2014. For global gross domestic product, the OECD forecasts an increase of 3.1 percent for this year and 4 percent for 2014.
Noting that eurozone policymakers have "often been behind the curve," the OECD warned that Europe was still beset by "weakly capitalized banks, public debt financing requirements and exit risks."
Sonoma may be known for its wine, and for a burgeoning artisanal food scene, and for its lush, rural landscapes and great weather — all of which have attracted growing numbers of retirees, long-distance commuters and international tourists. But Sonoma County is struggling with the same type of government financial crisis that has driven California cities such as Stockton and San Bernardino into bankruptcy.

Militants and armed radical groups have expanded and entrenched their positions throughout the Sahel and Sahara over the last decade under the umbrella of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Mahgreb (AQIM).
Zhao’s cleaning job started early last year when local authorities hired fishermen to clean already polluted waterways. She called the work “tough” and said she had witnessed the decline of the environment in the last two decades. Pig manure and carcasses were a familiar sight in the waters.
Dr. Michael Ciampi changed the policy in his office on April 1 of this year, knowing that he would be better serving his patients by not being told what to do by insurance companies and government health care systems. The doctor has posted prices of office visits and procedures on the website of his practice. What would seem astronomical, $150 for an office visit, is actually cheap if one considers how much is paid for health insurance in premiums each year.
“This is not surprising, knowing that BASF stopped its biotech research in Europe in 2012 and Syngenta moved its research years before. It will influence the international expansion of GMOs on a global scale,” comments Klaus Sall MSc.

GM salmon can breed with wild fish and pass on genes (westcoastjan)
Ron Stotish, CEO of AquaBounty Technologies Inc, said: "It is worth noting that in 1995, Peter Galbreath and Gary Thorgaard of Washington State University published research that the Atlantic salmon-brown trout hybrid is sterile. If this holds true, such a hybrid would pose little ecological threat as the fish would not reproduce.
Solar and wind couldn’t meet the latter goal, policy makers recognized. They said wood qualified as a renewable energy source as long as it came from forests that would grow back. Emissions from burning wood contain less of certain chemicals, such as sulfur, than coal smoke.
Expansion of conventional oil sands mines, which use large amounts of water and energy to extract the heavy oil, still require federal assessments even under changes proposed by the federal government.
Even though $2 corn was a reality as recently as 2005, they see too many competing uses for their product to be gloomy about the future. Beverages, high fructose corn syrup, starch, cereals and sweeteners are among uses of corn in food. Corn-fed beef, poultry, pork and dairy are its principal feed uses. And then on the fuel front ethanol demands are around 500 million bushels of corn.

"I don't want to stay in this house. I don't want to sleep here at night," she says. "My husband was the pillar of the family and when he died it was like the pillar of our house collapsing. Then my son was taken too."
Taken 10 years apart by cancer.
Evans indicated he was aware of the situation and reasoned that dry weather, and drought conditions, along with his wife's recent passing were all contributing factors to his inability to properly provide nourishment to livestock," Allen wrote.
