Jim Rogers on Gold: Continues to Have a Long Overdue Correction (Dana T.)

Rogers says gold is having a “long-overdue correction,” which he warned about long before the precious metal’s plunge last month. He says he would start to be concerned that this was more than just a correction if gold drops to $800 or $600 an ounce. But, as he’s said before, he would buy more gold at $1300 and $1200 an ounce.

U.S. authorities seize accounts of major Bitcoin operator (Dana T.)

Treasury’s anti-money laundering unit, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), in March issued guidance that dubbed digital currency exchanges money transmitters, a finding that obliged such businesses to register with FinCEN and obtain any mandated state licenses.

US seizes Bitcoin operator accounts (Arthur Robey)

A form of “e-money,” Bitcoin is made of strings of dazzlingly complex code, written in such a way that it becomes increasingly difficult to generate new Bitcoins, with the number in circulation designed to eventually top out at 21 million.

Originally worth less than a cent, the value peaked during the Cyprus financial crisis at $266. On Friday the price listed on the Blockchain website was $118.

Paper Gold, Metal Gold – When Worlds Diverge (adam)

People do not like to stand up and say so when this sort of divergence happens, because rising markets tend to make such warnings look foolish. And economists can find a rationalization for almost anything in the manner of lawyers and other breeds of sophists.

How Student Loans Became a $120 Billion Government Bonanza (Arthur Robey)

“As the pomp of graduation fades, many college graduates become keenly aware of their financial circumstance: in debt,” Ernie Almonte, chairman of the National CPA Financial Literacy Commission of the American Institute of CPAs, said in a statement. “They start out with an anchor that slows their progression toward future goals. It’s a difficult reality confronting a growing number of people.”

A Black Mound of Canadian Oil Waste Is Rising Over Detroit (Michael W.)

The company is controlled by Charles and David Koch, wealthy industrialists who back a number of conservative and libertarian causes including activist groups that challenge the science behind climate change. The company sells the high-sulfur, high-carbon waste, usually overseas, where it is burned as fuel.

The advantages (and price) of Eugenics

The Names David and Charles Koch sprung out of the digest again today.(Thanks Michael)

As a believer in the strong influence of our genes on who we are;   ("He gets his terrible temper from his grandfather". "She gets her artistic ability from Aunt Maude" etc You get the idea.), I wondered if the Kochs were descendants of Eigil Skallagrimson.

A little backgroud, if you please.

The Skandinavians of Norway evolved in a very particular environment. They were isolated at the ends of fjords on little patches of fertile ground left by retreating glaciers. They were isolated. Very quickly they reached their Limits To Growth.

This lead to inbreeding. Inbreeding unmasks lethal or disadvantageous recessive genes as well as advantageous recessive genes.(Oooh, hasen't she got the most beautiful sky blue eyes?). Every birth was weighed in the balance. "Was this child worth keeping?"

    This was Eugenics.

The result produced decendents who conquored the world. You don't like it? You don't have to. But you have to live in their world.

Eigil was a 6'6" predator and poet. He was not your run-of-the-mill Joe. The Saga of Eigil Skallagrimson is well worth the read.

Back to the Koch brothers. Here is a video of the family. Does it sound familiar to you?

    Koch = Coke

    Thanks Arthur,

I've learned from your post and video link that the Coch brothers, petroleum coke, a can of coke, and using coke are all very bad for your health. I would advise everyone to stay away.  I guess we now know why old NY Mayor Ed Coch pronounced his name "Kotch." I think my favorite part of the video is when David Coch says the rank and file members of the Tea party are normal people like him…quite revealing! They do agree that the US government is being economically irresponsible though…hmm.

    Hong Kong Exchange stops?

I saw this story on Max Keiser, and had a double check. (see link below)

    http://www.commodities-now.com/news/14514-hkmex-voluntarily-surrenders-automated-trading-services.html

If this is true, does it mean that the Chinese who have been trading on this exchange have been, in sheeple terms, fleeced?

Curious to hear the esteemed opinions on this event.

    Regards, Joanne.
