Negative interest rates put world on course for biggest mass default in history (locksmithuk)

Not only has this never happened before on such a scale, but it marks a scarcely believable turnaround on the situation at the height of the eurozone crisis just a little while back, when some European bond markets traded on yields that reflected the very real possibility of default. Yet far from being a welcome sign of returning economic confidence, this almost surreal state of affairs actually signals the very reverse. How did we get here, and what does it mean for the future? Whichever way you come at it, the answer to this second question is not good, not good at all.

Greece Debt Crisis Cannot Be Contained: Bill Holter (pinecarr)

On what Harry Dent said about gold recently, Holter says, “The danger is that he’s scaring people into selling their insurance. He’s scaring people into selling gold, and that is your insurance and gold is money. I think Dent is right, that we will have a $100 trillion plus of wealth evaporate. Walmart and Target will not even be open. Try going to Walmart with your dollars, there won’t be anything on the shelves.”

Alasdair Macleod On Gold, the SDR, and BRICS (pinecarr)

Desai pointed out in his paper that there are difficulties when it comes to including gold, because (and I think this is what he was trying to say) none of the SDR’s paper constituents are convertible into gold, but gold’s inclusion in the SDR would make them convertible through the back door. However, Desai seemed keen to re-examine the case for gold.

It should be pointed out that if gold is included in SDRs the arrangement cannot be long-lasting so long as the major central banks insist on printing money as an economic cure-all. However, China’s position with respect to gold and her own currency could be a different matter.

New bank fees target kids’ accounts and allow ‘double-dipping,’ say customers (westcoastjan)

The couple say they are less worried about themselves and more troubled by the fees being added to children’s accounts and student loans.

“They were reaching into the pockets of young savers and students — it is just wrong,” Gordon Murray says.

This Development Could Revolutionize Renewable Energy

In a flywheel system, energy (say from solar and wind sources) is used to spin a giant wheel faster and faster as more and more energy is generated. That wheel continues spinning until energy is needed at which point the spinning wheel is used to power electrical generators. The major problem with storing energy in a kinetic form is that friction slowly siphons off the power making it hard to conserve energy for any length of time. The big innovation in the Irish project is that the flywheel is housed inside a giant vacuum-sealed container with the wheel itself supported by magnets. This reduces the friction considerably and should enable the system to store energy with roughly 85-90% efficiency according to the company.

12 Unanswered Questions About The Baltimore Riots That They Don’t Want Us To Ask (thc0655)

The spark that ignited Monday’s pandemonium probably started with high school students on social media, who were discussing a “purge” — a reference to a film in which laws are suspended.

Many people knew “very early on” that there was “a lot of energy behind this purge movement,” Baltimore City Councilman Nick Mosby told CNN on Tuesday. “It was a metaphor for, ‘Let’s go out and make trouble.’”

Regina berry fest to be ‘berryless’ due to U.S. drought (westcoastjan)

St. Paul’s will not be able to able to get strawberries in time for the May 2 festival, it said, but will have flats of what it calls “farm-fresh” fruit for sale on May 30.

The fair will continue on the second, with other items for sale including home baking, deli items, along with books, movies and music.

The Limits of Propaganda (westcoastjan)

The officials start dealing with the “hard cases” of uncooperative individuals who remain, shutting down their communications by disabling their cell phones, shutting down internet access, and by imposing travel restrictions so that the “hard cases” are forced to remain in places where they can be watched.

Why Is JP Morgan Accumulating The Biggest Stockpile Of Physical Silver? (westcoastjan)

Over the past few years, JP Morgan has been voraciously buying up physical silver. Nobody has ever seen anything quite like this ever before. In fact, JP Morgan has added more than 8 million ounces of physical silver during the past couple of weeks alone. The following is an extended excerpt from a recent article by Mac Slavo…

Heal Your Gut, Heal Your Brain (Arthur Robey)

What surprises many of our new patients who ask for help with their anxiety or depression is that we start by looking at the health of the gut. For those of you who have followed this blog for any amount of time, you’ve probably picked up on a common theme here that you have to have a healthy gut microbiome for optimal well-being.
