“China is holding up pretty well despite what’s happening in the rest of the word,” Cornell professor and Brookings Institution senior fellow Eswar Prasad tells Henry Blodget in the accompanying clip. “Growth has slowed from the red-hot pace before the final crisis but [GDP] is now growing 7.5% to 8% year on an inflation-adjusted which is pretty good.”
Silver: Keep It Simple (GE Christenson)
The correlation is simple. More debt means higher prices for silver. Examine the following graph. Note that RSQ = 0.916 for smoothed (13 period moving average) monthly silver prices vs. National Debt – a close correlation.
Still, Pentagon officials are starting to examine targeted ways to cut their budget. “What we’ve learned in the past year is that the politics of dumb cuts is easy, because no one has to think through the implications of slicing everything by 8 percent,” said one senior defense official who has been deeply involved in the planning process. “The politics of cutting individual programs is as hard as it’s always been.”
“Any job creation is positive news, but the fact is unemployment in America is still way above the levels the Obama White House projected when the trillion-dollar stimulus spending bill was enacted, and the federal government’s ongoing spending binge has resulted in a debt that exceeds the size of our entire economy,” Speaker John Boehner said in a statement.
Lilly’s life has been defined by both the condition that restricts her choices, and the smarts, tools and support that allow her to escape those restrictions. Gay recalls, “Ever since Lilly was really small, she’d be up most of the night and in the morning, I’d say, “Why don’t you stay with me and relax?” And she would just cry and cry to go to school. She always wanted to be doing what the other kids were doing.”
On the 4th of March a power cut at Norway’s Ormen Lange natural gas field halted natural gas supplies and led to a 64% increase in market prices, sending them to the highest level in seven years.
Craig Lowrey, a consultant at the Utilities Exchange Ltd., said that “the recent price spikes highlight our reliance on Norway in a period when there isn’t the LNG arriving that we got used to.”
There has been an 85% reduction in MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), which has meant that many large, acute hospitals have no more than two or three cases a year. But there are now 50 to 100 cases of gram-negative bacteria infection for every MRSA case, according to Professor Mike Sharland of St George's hospital in London, an adviser to the Department of Health on the use of antimicrobials (antibiotics and antivirals) in children.
“It’s from the Egyptian god of death and destruction,” Dr. Tyson said. “It was named knowing that it crosses Earth’s orbit.” Otherwise, he said, “we would have named it something less threatening, like Tiffany or Bambi.”
Scientists say it will fly uncomfortably close to us in 2029 and again in 2036 and yet again in 2068. Luck, Dr. Tyson is convinced, will not be forever on our side. “What is a certainty is that one day Apophis and Earth will collide,” he said. “So our goal should be, if the survival of our civilization is a concern and a priority, to find a way to deflect it.”
