Wine & chocolate stop Covid? Study finds certain foods can kill the coronavirus (Tsquared)

A range of foods and beverages, including dark chocolate, green tea, and muscadine grapes could be a secret weapon in the fight against Covid-19. New research has revealed they contain compounds that can kill the virus.

Scientists studied what happened when the virus that causes Covid-19 – SARS-CoV-2 – came up against chemical compounds found in plants known for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Are Car Seat Laws Driving Down America’s Birthrate? (thc0655)

A provocative new study claims the steady upward creep in the age at which states mandate that children use car seats is prompting women to either postpone or opt out of having a third child.

The paper, published on the Social Science Research Network, by finance professors Jordan Nickerson of MIT and David Solomon of Boston College, argues that most vehicles can fit only two car seats in the back row, necessitating the purchase of a larger car to accommodate three young children at once. That added cost, they argue, disincentivizes some women from having a third child.

No Privacy, No Property: The World In 2030 According To The WEF (CleanEnergyFan)

The World Economic Forum (WEF) was founded fifty years ago. It has gained more and more prominence over the decades and has become one of the leading platforms of futuristic thinking and planning. As a meeting place of the global elite, the WEF brings together the leaders in business and politics along with a few selected intellectuals. The main thrust of the forum is global control. Free markets and individual choice do not stand as the top values, but state interventionism and collectivism.

Individual liberty and private property are to disappear from this planet by 2030 according to the projections and scenarios coming from the World Economic Forum.

Raoul Pal Sees Cryptocurrencies Gathering “Trillions Of Value” (CleanEnergyFan)

Raoul Pal, CEO of macro research and advisory service Global Macro Investor, posted a series of tweets today, in which he suggested that BitcoinEthereum, and other cryptocurrencies have the potential to absorb “trillions and trillions of value” from traditional markets.

“If bitcoin is the digital pristine collateral, the size of [the] global [government] bond market is $123 [trillion]. Pretty amazing opportunity for bitcoin,” Pal tweeted.

“The size of the global custody system is $23 trn. That will accrue to bitcoin and more likely maybe ETH.”

The Top 1% of Americans Have Taken $50 Trillion From the Bottom 90%—And That’s Made the U.S. Less Secure (rkbost)

Like many of the virus’s hardest hit victims, the United States went into the COVID-19 pandemic wracked by preexisting conditions. A fraying public health infrastructure, inadequate medical supplies, an employer-based health insurance system perversely unsuited to the moment—these and other afflictions are surely contributing to the death toll. But in addressing the causes and consequences of this pandemic—and its cruelly uneven impact—the elephant in the room is extreme income inequality.

Oracle’s Ellison relocates from California to Hawaii

Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison has moved from California’s Silicon Valley to a Hawaiian island where he owns almost all of the land

The billionaire reported his relocation to the software giant’s staff members on Monday, writing in a company-wide email that he would not follow the company’s headquarters from Redwood City, Calif., to Austin, Texas.

Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church received $4.4M COVID-19 PPP loan

Multimillionaire televangelist Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Texas netted $4.4 million in bailouts through the federal COVID-19 relief program, records show.

The Houston megachurch, the largest in the nation with 52,000 weekly congregants, received the forgivable Paycheck Protection Program loan in late July, the Houston Business Journal reported Sunday. The loan was the third-highest in the Houston area during all of July and August, the outlet noted, citing federal data.

More dead fish are washing up along the Hudson River (newsbuoy)

Dead fish have been washing up along a 60-mile stretch of the Hudson River, reaching as far north as Putnam County — and advocates fear they are suffocating to death following a similar mass fish fatality over the summer.

Carcasses of Atlantic menhaden, a type of herring known as bunker fish, have been spotted from the New York Harbor to Mystery Point in Garrison, according to clean water advocate group Riverkeeper.

    Thanks

Good read, Jan. Unless you are a Biden apologist, it is quite clear that Escobar has nailed it. I don't understand why folks think this will turn out well. The obvious corruption in the government runs deep and wide. It will affect all of us, regardless of political leanings, in a negative manner.

I understand Mots' recommendation to walk away. My concern is that we are entering a phase not unlike having evil descend upon you in a dark alley. You will not be allowed to simply walk away. There will be a fight. No matter what you do or where you live (in the US), you will not escape the effects of what I believe is coming our way.

Keep your preps ready? Absolutely. ALL of your preps. 😉

    For Sand_puppy

These I took about 7:30 this morning. It hasn't stopped, and is now nearly 3 feet deep in the spine of the Vermont Green Mountains. Happily, though, it's light and powdery, which makes it easy to shovel -- and I'm about to, so I can get to my chickens.

    Forensic Ballot Verification

I just watched this interesting 21 minute video (posted 11 Dec 2020) where Jovan Hunter Pulitzer explained how he can non-destructively verify authenticity of ballots using digital methods. He says that he can check for folds (all ballots were machine folded in order to be mailed. No fold = not mailed.) He can check for invisible ink signatures on the ballot to identify the printer. He can even check the way a person marked their ballot based on the pattern of pen strokes and the entry and exit point(s) of the pen. Pretty cool!

Does he know what he's talking about? He's the guy who came up with QRC codes that allow you to take a picture of a squarish barcode and have the website show up on your device. He's got lots of patents for this sort of work. He seems legit to me.

    Just got Alert

I was napping in my car in Santa Cruz when a loud “air raid siren” sound went off.  Nuclear attack?  Flash flooding?  Tornado?  I look around for the danger and find that my cell phone has an alert to all Bay Area counties to stay home.  “COVID-19 is spreading rapidly.”

    Scary.

Too bad it is so difficult to communicate the protective effects of Ivermectin to my family and friends who just cannot break from the group mind.  🙁

    "Just got Alert"

This might be more techie than some people want to get into, but I was able to find and remove the program on my (Android) phone that handles emergency alerts.   Its not just an app you remove through the phone but it is possible if you hook up with a usb cable and install ADB software.

I resolved to do it after that terrible story about the Hawaiians getting a warning about an incoming nuke and then getting a second one telling them that the first warning was no accident and it was verified as real.

Also I figured it was only a matter of time until Trump used it at 2:00AM to inform us that "Nancy Pelosi is a c**t"

The emergency warning system is a perfect example of something I'd be willing to submit to as a citizen if we were ruled by serious people.  Since we arent...

Hi Gallant, I was just talking to a guy who was a determined anti-masker.  His parents ended up with Covid-19 had it bad, they are old, but are now recovering.  The father got remdesivir and it seemed to help.

    Masks Just Don't Work.

I personally believe that Chris' argument that masks reduce inoculum is more than offset by the fact that a mask is like wearing a petri dish on your face where bacteria and fungus can happily multiply in that warm moist environment until they are breathed deep into your lungs or transferred to contaminate surfaces by people constantly touching their dirty masks.  Surgical masks contain a chemical known to cause lung cancer.

The virus is airborne.  I floats around for hours.  Stopping droplets makes no practical difference.  ALL of the randomized trials show masks do NOT stop transmission of a virus.  The "science" that says they do work are things like low quality theoretical "models."

Take a look at the charts in this twitter thread.  There is NO CORRELATION between mask compliance and numbers of cases!

    https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1306277076442525697.html

If Masks Work, Why Don't They WORK?

Remember back in May and June when they said, “Hey, if everyone would just wear masks for a few weeks, it’ll all be over and we can go back to normal!” Remember that? Remember those three hairdressers using masks and COVID not spreading at all, or something, then blue state policymakers and national retailers and restaurants using that “evidence” along with a few model-based ‘studies’ to demand that every human from ages two and above wear a moist cloth diaper on his or her face, both indoors and outdoors, to “stop the spread” of a virus that poses very little harm to the vast majority of those who contract it? Remember them telling us it was only temporary, that masks had the power to stop COVID-19 right in its tracks and save grandma?

Except, neither the masks nor the lockdown measures every really stopped COVID-19 in its tracks, did they? Nope, the virus just kept right on virusing, as highly-contagious respiratory viruses are prone to do. You can lock down and delay the inevitable, but as soon as you peek your nose out the virus will be waiting. You can mask up ‘till the cows come home, but even the CDC now admits that, with or without masks, 15 minutes of close contact with an infected person will spread the virus. And given the fact that it has ALWAYS taken 15 minutes of close contact with an infected person to spread the virus, that means masks are generally useless.

    Here it comes!

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/andrew-yang-vaccine-barcode

Businessman and former presidential candidate Andrew Yangencountered some criticism on Friday after he suggested that Americans should have a downloadable bar code that verifies they've received the coronavirusvaccine.

"Is there a way for someone to easily show that they have been vaccinated - like a bar code they can download to their phone?" he asked on Twitter. "There ought to be."

He added that it's "[t]ough to have mass gatherings like concerts or ballgames without either mass adoption of the vaccine or a means of signaling."

    re garding barcode for vaccine

I am not sure what good a vaccine proof certificate of any kind will do for an illness you can get again after 4 mos.  THEY have not proven any sort of durability for the vaccine.. Until we know how long , it makes no sense to do such a thing.. Right now, it takes 6 weeks ( 30 days between 1st and second dose - and 2 weeks to have immune system buildup )   to gain full vaccination benefit.     - and you keep immunity no more than 4 mos -- as we know of now.

Why have an identifier that shows you may be good to go for an 6- 10 week period?

    regarding masks dont work, gallantfarms

I disagree for the most part.   However , it does stand to reason, that these are airborne., if we are talking ebola be airborne here, no one in their right mind would suggest that a paper mask of any kind would make sense.  So yes , we do not expect a mask to absolutely block out the virus.  But I would say that there are two possibilities where it can be effective .. actually 2 and half.

    1.  The idea of washing hands even during flu season , or even with bacteria in food prep is not eliminate all sense of contamination, its about reducing risk of exposure.. if you just had one droplet.. that may have been that random infection cause.. you "may" catch it.. But it is not like you get everyone.. food poisoning is the same principle.. its not that you cant find zero bacteria.. its about an amount that will increase risk of disease.

    2. We know viruses are not the same as bacteria in means of quantity to cause disease.    However, Dr Martenson's presentation regarding innoculum , may be a viable theory according to science.   The math is not the problem.    and to the 1/2 , it is also a theory that your body does have some initial defenses , where it can kill viruses in the nose throat and mouth.... in very very low concentrations.. and it make take a certain qty to actually defeat that very basic first-line defense.  So it is possible if you get  small amount of germ your body either can kill it , or it takes much longer to replicate to sufficient qtys to cause harm..    There is some logic and reason to this.    I can tell you one thing, it would look stupid not to take any precautions to reduce spread.. I know how that will work if we stopped wearing masks during surgery, and stopped washing hands for food prep etc..      we know germs are everywhere.. we have studies on that - even after washing.. but.. we know that basic hygiene works in reducing disease spread;   that is what we are talking about.
