Biden Picks Janet Yellen To Be Treasury Secretary In Historic Appointment

The United States has had 77 Treasury secretaries in the last 231 years. So far, they’ve all been men. That’s about to change.

President-elect Joe Biden plans to nominate former Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen to head the Treasury Department, a source close to the transition told NPR on Monday

Childhood vaccine linked to less severe COVID-19, cigarette smoke raises risk (stilley)

(Reuters) – The following is a roundup of some of the latest scientific studies on the novel coronavirus and efforts to find treatments and vaccines for COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus.

Childhood vaccine may help prevent severe COVID-19

People whose immune systems responded strongly to a measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine may be less likely to become severely ill if they are infected with the new coronavirus, new data suggest.

The Trump administration is hampering the economic recovery at a critical time

Dec. 31 is shaping up to be a bleak day for the U.S. economy. Millions of unemployed Americans will no longer qualify for government aid. Renters will lose their protections for evictions. Student loan debt-holders will lose their relief. And now it looks like the Federal Reserve will be forced to end a bunch of emergency lifeline programs for troubled businesses, cities and states.

The ending of all this aid is coming at a rough time. The economic recovery is stalling and starting to backslide. Layoffs are ticking up again, household spending is slowing and people aren’t venturing out much as coronavirus cases skyrocket in much of the country.

Vibrations of coronavirus proteins may play a role in infection (Doherty)

When someone struggles to open a lock with a key that doesn’t quite seem to work, sometimes jiggling the key a bit will help. Now, new research from MIT suggests that coronaviruses, including the one that causes Covid-19, may use a similar method to trick cells into letting the viruses inside. The findings could be useful for determining how dangerous different strains or mutations of coronaviruses may be, and might point to a new approach for developing treatments.

How To Close Up Your Pandemic Bubble Without Losing Friends

As coronavirus case numbers surge across the country, it’s not just the obvious places you should avoid: political rallies, large weddings, crowded bars, restaurants and night clubs.

More and more, health experts warn that COVID-19 is being transmitted at the intimate get-togethers many of us believed were relatively safe: Dinner parties with close, trusted friends. Game nights with family members who live in different households. Sleepovers and learning pods with just a handful of kids and parents involved.

Covid: Vaccination will be required to fly, says Qantas chief

International air travellers will in future need to prove they have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in order to board Qantas flights, the airline says.

The Australian flag carrier’s boss, Alan Joyce, said the move would be “a necessity” when vaccines are available. “I think that’s going to be a common thing talking to my colleagues in other airlines around the globe,” he said.

Newly Discovered Volcanic Mineral Could Lead To More Efficient Batteries

The mineral consists of oxygen, sulfur and copper atoms, which form a porous framework. Smaller atoms, like sodium, can move freely through the crystalline structure using the voids and channels in the framework as passages. This unique property could be used as a template for creating more efficient batteries.

Environment

COVID-19: Air Quality Influences the Pandemic

Epidemiologists widely agree that there is a correlation between acute and locally elevated concentrations of fine particles and the severity of influenza waves. «We have investigated whether such a link also exists with the virulence of COVID-19 disease,» says Mario Rohrer, researcher at the Institute for Environmental Sciences of the Faculty of Sciences of UNIGE and director of Meteodat.

    Peak Silliness/GetWiththeProgramAlready

Not a statement for or against, just an interesting contrast of what seems like misplaced priorities and a potential waste of tax money.  So I see this today:

Cannabis tax revenues in Q3 collected by the State of California soared by a record 80% year-over-year, and by a record of $136 million year-over-year, to a $307 million, the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration reported Monday afternoon. This does not include tax revenues collected by cities and counties. All three categories surged: Excise Tax (+89%), Cultivation Tax (+80%), and Sales Tax (+67%).

    https://www.zerohedge.com/political/fumes-stimulus-frustration-california-legal-cannabis-sales-explode

    And then this (Connecticut):

Officials located a marijuana grow operations, where more than 80 fully mature plants, standing an average of 5 feet tall were seized.

State Police said they were able to identify the suspects growing the plants.

On Monday, November 23, State Police arrested 56-year-old Shawn Cook after being identified as a cultivator of marijuana.

According to officials, Cook had 15 fully mature marijuana plants growing on his Covell Road property in Pomfret.

    ...

The operation was conducted by the Statewide Narcotics Task Force Northcentral and East Offices, as well as the Massachusetts Army National Guard.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/pomfret-man-charged-after-bust-leads-to-seizure-of-over-80-total-marijuana-plants-15-on-his-property/ar-BB1bjMNL

Wow, 15 plants, 80 plants, FIVE FEET tall, national guard, holy crap!  What's the world coming to?

    legal cannabis

Federal system at work, allowing states to experiment. Some states legalize cannabis, rake in tax revenue, decrease jail expenses, and society marches on just fine. More and more states will follow I think.

I was never for or against very strongly until my father died of Parkinsons a few years back. He absolutely should have had medical marijuana, it would have made his final days so much better, but it wasn't legal in Ohio at the time (not sure about now) and I don't smoke so I didn't have connections.

Locking people up for smoking a plant that makes them lazy and silly and making the rest of us pay, both for the police to catch them and then pay their room and board in prison, just seems dumb to me.

The Great Reset is already being rebranded as “The Future We Want”

Q: Why rebrand The Great Reset so soon?
A: Ordinary people discovered it and seriously don’t like it.

Amazingpolly.net’s video entitled “No One Likes You Klaus” covers that and other fast developing Great Reset topics. As dark as her factual discoveries are, she highlights some reasons to hope the Great Reset is going to fail, or be limited in scope. Well worth the time (I watched Polly at 1.5x normal speed).

    Dennis and David

First Dennis: The world is not "coming " to anything. The world has been there for decades. The government has been busting people for pot for a long time. The dirty little secret (thanks to Joe Biden) is that the name of the game is not busting people, the name of the game is asset forfeiture. Thanks to legislation the government can seize all your property. Police depts across the country are raking in huge amounts of money and property. The other day I was behind a sheriff's SUV and across the back was written. "This vehicle was purchased with proceeds from the arrest of drug dealers." Wonder where all the money for all that military hardware they have now comes from?

David: Yes it is dumb except if you look at it from the perspective I wrote about above it makes perfect sense. Few are aware of asset forfeiture. Even fewer are aware of the private prison industry which relies on a steady supply of inmates. These inmates work for corporate Amerika for pennies. There is nothing better than a prison workforce composed of  nonviolent drug offenders. Kamala Harris put over 1500 pot users in prison in California. Biden/Harris? Get it?

BTW To them your father was nothing more than "collateral damage"

thc0655, I thought the same thing about The Onion

My wife told me that at dinner last night and we both just burst out laughing.  Next we'll be having Pablo Escobar as head of the FDA.  And if someone posts to remind me that he's dead, I'll retort that so is someone else's brain.  Besides, if dead people can vote, why can't they run an agency ... or even be elected to public office.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/man-who-died-coronavirus-wins-election-north-dakota-state-legislature-n1246393

At least they won't collect paychecks and pensions and the harm they do will be minimal.  Their campaign motto could be "Primum non nocere".

    I'm voting for dead people.

We are truly entering Alice in Wonderland territory.

    The Inevitable Reset

Everything this website talks about centers around the inevitability of some form of drastic reset.  This website also encourages getting ready for the reset, the implication is that the reset will be difficult for almost everyone.

I haven’t researched “The Great Reset” much, because I don’t think it will come to pass.

The way people and governments are behaving today, I think the beginning of the inevitable change is going to look more like civil war or world war.

Does that sound more appealing than “The Great Reset?”

Les, allow me to pose a question as well

Did WW2 sound more appealing than capitulation to fascist forces taking over the planet?

To quote Tim Larkin, "Violence is rarely the answer ... but when it is, it's the only answer."

Whether we have reached that point yet is open for debate but the outcry for action is rising rapidly.

    Vaccination Required to Fly

This is how the vaccine will become mandatory. Useful idiots like Qantas will enforce its use on behalf of Big Pharma.

Although Big Pharma is exonerated from all liability in case of a bad reaction to the vaccine, airlines would probably be liable if they require you to take it.

Regardless, it almost certainly won’t be the panacea that the sheeple expect...
Far better to just keep your immune system tuned up.

    vaccine will be painful

Reports are, the vaccine will be painful.  First shot will take you out for a day, second booster will be worse.  It will be interesting to see what happens when word gets around.

I think there are shoes left to drop yet on the vaccine front.

And it will only reduce symptoms.  It won't confer immunity.  Supposedly.

    IMO the biggest wildcard is...

Does a vaccine actually stop you from getting and spreading it or does it turn those vaccinated into superspreaders?

As far as I can tell the Pfizer and Moderna trials only ran PCR tests on people that had two Covid symptoms.  The Astra Zeneca trial did a bit better but I don’t think they did consistent testing.

There is a remote possibility that this second wave was caused by all these vaccine trials dumping a bunch of asymtomatic spreaders into the population.   I would love to see a graph of Covid cases and vaccine trial numbers.

Does that sound more appealing than “The Great Reset?”

Yes! Yes! Yes! Les you can offer me as many choices as you want, but if living under a tyrannical government is one of the choices I’ll always choose whatever the other choice is. I’ll take my chances with overpopulation, environmental collapse, economic collapse, WWIII, or whatever, before a tyrannical government even if they claim the purest motives to save us (which they ALWAYS do, of course).

Now I wonder: is that impossible for you to believe (that I and millions like me could be so obtuse) or are you trying to convince me of the necessity of a benevolent tyranny to save the Earth and the human race (in that order)? Every tyranny I’ve ever heard of was supported by a significant, if not majority, of the population. So I expect there are many in the US and other places who would be very comfortable with an allegedly beneficent tyrannical leader who laid out a plan to save us (from whatever). But it has ALWAYS followed the installation of such a tyranny that the industrial-scale killing began. I consider that a far greater direct threat to the survival of me and mine than any alternative evil you can propose. And you know what? Most of the original supporters of the Savior/Tyrant themselves end up in prison or dead themselves once the Tyrant has no more use for them.

Geedard: great video from down-under! My sentiments exactly.

    Janet Yellen for treasury secretary..Hooray

I love her. She will make mass unemployment the centerpiece of her agenda. In the past she has been very concerned with disparity in income. That's all to the good. It's about time someone in power focused on that. Heaven's knows the the current "president" doesn't give a flying fig what with foodbanks running out of food and stimulus set to run out by January. Merry Christmas, America!

ap, thank you for the satire

It provided a bit of levity in these dark times.  It should be noted that General Patton's first sentence (from 0:40 to 1:09) had the apt reply to anyone who seriously states give me the Great Reset or Give me Death.  They may well get the latter wish granted if they try to deprive a large number of the citizens of the USA of their liberty without those citizens' consent.

vaccines can cause epidemics - abcnews

    AP-

You might consider using google before claiming that vaccines can't cause epidemics.  Presumably it depends on the type of vaccine being used.  Perhaps ones that contain inactivated (or live-attenuated) virus:

    https://covidvax.org/covid19-vaccines-category/virus/inactivated-and-live-attuanuated

Article from Sep 2 2020 - polio epidemic caused by vaccine - top result of search: "vaccine causes epidemic"

    https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory/polio-outbreak-sudan-caused-oral-vaccine-72766683

LONDON -- The World Health Organization says a new polio outbreak in Sudan is linked to an ongoing vaccine-sparked epidemic in Chad — a week after the U.N. health agency declared the African continent free of the wild polio virus.

In a statement this week, WHO said two children in Sudan — one from South Darfur state and the other from Gedarif state, close to the border with Ethiopia and Eritrea — were paralyzed in March and April. Both had been recently vaccinated against polio. WHO said initial outbreak investigations show the cases are linked to an ongoing vaccine-derived outbreak in Chad that was first detected last year and is now spreading in Chad and Cameroon.

    Re: vaccines can cause epidemics

Yep, the ability of attenuated live vaccines to spread within a community can be seen as a feature if the vaccinators are not sure that they will be able to vaccinate everyone in that community. The spread helps to ensure everyone ends up vaccinated - too bad, so sad if you had chosen to remain unvaccinated for some reason. Also, given a few iterations of infection, the bug is likely to evolve to become 'unattenuated' and as dangerous as the normal infection. This was known in the 70s for polio -eg pg 32-33 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2395534/pdf/bullwho00438-0031.pdf

Another way in which vaccines can cause epidemics is if the vaccine suppresses the symptoms but does not inhibit the spread of a disease. This is one of the issues with killed polio vaccine, by the way. Officially, it reduces symptoms but does little to inhibit the spread of the disease so by the time someone ends up paralysed and polio is diagnosed there may be a very large pool of infected people acting as a reservoir. Potentially it even facilitates the spread of disease if the absence of visible disease spreads complacency and failure to maintain good hygiene.

    Is this great reset sustainable?

Assume the big fish owns everything, we own nothing, we rent everything. Then, how can they keep the flow of wealth running? I mean, once they own everything, how can they be richer? Money printing? Then, this is just a number. Nothing tangible to continue to hoard. No one can print land and resources. Are they using money to grab power? So power is the only goal? Did we really understand all the stakes behind this game? What is the fuel that will keep the system running after the reset is implemented?

Without "fuel" to sustain itself, this reset is just an additional step toward the wall and an efficient way to increase gratuitous misery.

    peak oil

    blackeagle-

Peak oil is only "at peak" because we have 7B people that want to have a middle class lifestyle.  If we have only a few thousand people flying around in private jets - while the rest "own nothing....and are happy", with some relatively smaller number of elite-servants using electric scooters or electric mini-cars, then the remaining oil will last forever.

I'd also assume the mandatory vaccines aren't exactly health-inducing.  And vitamins will be even more discouraged, food will get worse, with fewer minerals, lower food value, lifespans will shorten, obesity/diabetes/dementia/cancer will get worse, VR glasses will arrive - $149 - along with almost-free Netflix and the latest video games, and some large number of people will just check out into The Matrix - subsist on their UBI, live in the virtual world, and eventually die at age 45 or 50.  Heck.  They might just stop reproducing entirely.  Rumor has it that male testosterone levels have plunged dramatically.

    https://www.huffpost.com/entry/the-mystery-of-declining-testosterone_b_59fcc5fbe4b0d467d4c224b3

Peak Oil avoided.  The Great Reset.

I get all your sound arguments. they make sense and this is what I would do to eliminate competition. However, I have the intuition this is not enough. The history of our species is an history of "grab and want more". So, once I get everything, control everything, I will just stay there and enjoy all these god's privileges? Not sure of that. This is a boring position for sociopaths. No plateau for them. It has to be up, up, up with the accepted risk of being down once in a while.

If, as I stated it, their gluttony is endless, then misery will follow the same trend and people will eventually revolt.

    Mars

With all due respect, this is a blatant lie served to us. We must be naive to believe that space colonization will be ever done. The only friendly environment is this planet and they know it. Data is unequivocal about that: space is a non livable environment for earth's organisms. Mars is a diversion.

IMO, the "more" they want must be down here, not above, not far away. Will they leave this planet to live elsewhere and take the risk of 1) losing their wealth by not being present and control it, and 2) being annihilated because one screw of their Elysium failed? Will they deploy ever dwindling resources to bring on earth very little new resources? I don't think so. They use just enough of it to keep the circus running. The game is being played here for here. We must keep our focus here.

There is an illusionist playing a show. Some spectators wonder at the show, other focus to understand the trickery behind it. The latter is a more important and lasting experience.

    Yes, it's True (apparently)

Man Getting High And Eating Taco Bell Thousands Of Miles Away From Family Having Best Thanksgiving [or is it the best "Unthanksgiving"] Of Life

SAN DIEGO—Lying on the couch in his cramped, poorly lit apartment, local man Mark Borkowski was reportedly having the best Thanksgiving of his life Thursday while getting high and eating Taco Bell thousands of miles away from his family. “Wow, I never knew this holiday could be so genuinely wonderful,” said Borkowski, sitting alone with a glass pipe in one hand and a chalupa in the other as he watched episodes of How I Met Your Mother on his laptop. “The Taco Bell guy got my order pretty much right, and I still have plenty of weed. Meanwhile, my parents are on the other side of the country and in a totally different timezone, so our entire interaction this year was a five-minute phone call while I packed this bowl.

Mars and Many other things are a distraction yes

My apologies for not being more blatant in my sarcasm about them saying that Mars will be their new home - our new home.

So although this does appear as one of their 8 Predictions indeed, so that much is true, but yes I agree it is  BIG BIG lie.

We need remember that things are often opposite of what they appear.  From my investigation, which is maybe 900 hours at this point, they do two things:

    1)  Put out things before our eyes in some fashion, obliquely, tangentially, symbolically, that indicate their true plans and

    2) Say the opposite of what they mean.

I think it is good that you point out the importance of "focusing".  Today my focus on action includes:

fighting with the UK Board of Education about how their "safeguarding" policies encroach on freedoms, and  I am writing to six Canadian Senators in the PC party.  I also am writing a long note to someone asking for information to learn more.

My focused learning  will include several videos and articles, blogs on the topic etc.

Perhaps fewer distractions re Mars than you think...

    @Mary59,

As I understand it, the plan is to only send men to Mars.

I believe women are slated to colonize Venus.

    Perfect Match

When the official speeches start next year, hopefully there is still a conservative-leaning mole (or dormant cell) remaining in the communications office (i.e. the old-school AV-Dept) that has a hankering for a "Ron Burgundy" moment and some fun with the teleprompter roll (hopefully in prime time).  Wouldn't that be a hoot and a half?

    Dave Fairtex,

where did I say vaccines can't cause epidemics?  In response to Kathy wondering if those who have received trial vaccines for covid are now super spreaders in the community, I said not remotely likely. What exactly is it they are going to spread?

It's not live polio vaccine, something of a completely different nature.

It is the Law! are we not Progressive?

With Tanden Choice, Democrats Stick it to Sanders Voters

Is it me or do I hear the effect of the Clinton-Dick Morris strategy from some progressives. Isn't (neo)"progressivism” effectively the sharp tip of the Patriarchy and the emergent Neo-feutal society? A good read and adds to the “conversation” in terms of influences on the way we think and the opinions we think we have, which in fact, have been placed in us.
