527 Pages of New Federal Regulations…TODAY! (Aaron M.)

This is the anaconda that (day-by-day) squeezes the life out of the American economy. The federal government has enmeshed itself into the economic, social, and private lives of everyone. To call this "freedom" is to completely misunderstand what freedom means. It's authoritarianism and it grows relentlessly.

Spike in interest rates could trigger housing crash: CMHC (tlampman)

“It helps pacify taxpayer risk that CMHC could collapse should any market dynamics shift at all. It really doesn’t have an immediate or direct impact on any bank decisions as they will also analyze their own exposure and risk to any serious changes to the markets,” he said.

You Are Still Crying Wolf (richcabot)

I stick to my thesis from October 2015. There is no evidence that Donald Trump is more racist than any past Republican candidate (or any other 70 year old white guy, for that matter). All this stuff about how he’s “the candidate of the KKK” and “the vanguard of a new white supremacist movement” is made up. It’s a catastrophic distraction from the dozens of other undeniable problems with Trump that could have convinced voters to abandon him. That it came to dominate the election cycle should be considered a horrifying indictment of our political discourse, in the same way that it would be a horrifying indictment of our political discourse if the entire Republican campaign had been based around the theory that Hillary Clinton was a secret Satanist. Yes, calling Romney a racist was crying wolf. But you are still crying wolf.

Sam Zell explains the important psychological ‘shift’ taking place in the market (Herman J.)

“I think this country needs optimism. I think this country needs somebody like Trump to encourage us and lead us in an optimistic fashion.”

Gold Price Skyrockets in India after Currency Ban – Part II (Aaron M.)

What Modi did was not only heavy-handed, hugely arrogant, and of no value, it has been very badly implemented to boot — as everything in India always is — and carries the real potential of escalating and snowballing into something horrific. They could have seen that this was not going to end well by simply using primary school math.

Hello Technology, Goodbye Jobs (Tiffany D.)

As the Internet of Things takes over the planet, it promises to do way more than make our lives simpler and more convenient. It promises to pretty much steal most of the jobs that exist today. And I’m not talking about menial jobs such as warehousing and delivering.

    On the value of Work.

As someone who has spent a substantial part of his life underground procuring your asbestos, tin, gold and nickel I cheer on the destruction of jobs.

Imagine a time when there are no jobs. Not even President of the World, because Every job will be be done better, cheaper, faster than any blacksmith with anvil and hammer, or any seamstress with needle, thread, candle and failing eyesight.

And where every decision is made based upon the combined knowledge of the web. Don't like it? AI is already all over the web. If you were thinking of Asimov's "flesh and blood" robots please be aware that Asimov was marinated in Objective Materialism.

Already the Web facilitates the hive mind. Witness the election of D.Trump. I anticipate a time in the near future where AI gently but firmly removes the instruments of power from the bloodied hands of their wet ware creators.

The ideal, my Protestant friends, is not work.

Work is the curse of the drinking class.

    RIP Oscar.

    3 Officers shot assassination style.

The Fourth Turning progresses along with (some violent) protests against the election and three unrelated shootings of police officers assassination style yesterday.  All the while the economic apocalypse draws closer every day.

At 11:45 a.m. Sunday, a San Antonio police officer was shot and killed while performing a routine traffic stop near police headquarters downtown, police Chief William McManus said.

McManus said the shooting occurred on the south side of SAPD headquarters, where an officer was issuing a traffic citation. As he did so, a black vehicle pulled up behind the officer's unit.

The suspect got out of the car, walked up to the passenger window and fired one round into the patrol car, hitting the officer in the head, McManus said. He said the suspect reached in and fired again, hitting the officer a second time.

A St. Louis police sergeant was in critical condition Sunday after he was shot twice in the head while sitting in his patrol car in what the police chief called an ambush.

The suspect drove alongside the sergeant's marked vehicle and fired at him, Chief Sam Dotson of the St. Louis Police Department said.

The 46-year-old sergeant, who Dotson said has 20 years of service, was shot two times in the head and sustained injuries to the face. He was in critical but stable condition and was talking, and was expected to survive the police chief said.

"This officer was driving down the road and was ambushed by an individual who pointed a gun at him from inside of his car and shot out the police officer's window," he said.

Sanibel Police officials say the suspect who shot a police officer on the island Sunday evening is in custody.

The suspect was taken into custody in the Dunes neighborhood after exchanging gunfire with officers from the Sanibel Police Department.

According to police, an officer was shot and injured during a drive-by while conducting a traffic stop around 8 p.m. Sources identified the officer as Jarred Ciccone.

The suspect fled the scene and was located in the 1400 block of Sandcastle Road.

Residents of the Dunes neighborhood were told to lock their doors and stay away from all windows. The police department has given the neighborhood the all clear.

Officer Ciccone was taken to the Lee Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. We learned Officer Ciccone has been a member of the Sanibel Police Department for a number of years. In fact, in May of last year, he was named Officer of the Year by the Lee County Bar Association for using a defibrillator to save a woman's life.
