Energy

Oil and gas giants hit back at climate critics, say they’re leaders in energy transition

The CEOs of some of the world’s leading energy companies have defended their position in the energy mix after the COP26 climate summit focused attention on the future of the industry.

The energy storage decade has arrived, BNEF says

Falling battery costs and “surging” renewables penetration make energy storage a “compelling flexible resource in many power systems.”

Environment

VELUX and EFFEKT Develop Strategic Framework for Designing Healthier and More Sustainable Build Environment

The Build for Life concept aims to create sustainable communities and built environment through affordable, socially-oriented designs and new housing models, healthy indoor climates and the use of low-impact materials.

Despite dirty air, India struggles to move on from coal

Choked in toxic smog, New Delhi has shut down schools and workplaces. Though nations pledged to move away from coal at the UN climate summit, India is reluctant to replace the polluting fuel source.

Health

A second HIV patient may have been ‘cured’ of infection without stem cell treatment, in extremely rare case

Researchers say they have found a second patient whose body seemingly had rid itself of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes AIDS — supporting hope that it may be possible someday to find a way to cure more people of the virus.

How your microbiome can improve your health

More than a decade ago, little was known about the myriad of microorganisms that live happily inside and on our bodies. Now researchers believe they could change the future of human health through a procedure known as a faecal microbiota transplantation.

    A different model.

Paul Hellyer's last speech that paints a completely different model, one which, if correct, makes others look childlike.

Brits Will Need 3 Jabs To Be Considered "Fully Vaccinated": UK PM Johnson

“On boosters, it’s very clear that getting three jabs—getting your booster—will become an important fact and it will make life easier for you in all sorts of ways, and we will have to adjust our concept of what constitutes a full vaccination to take account of that,” he said.

“As we can see from what’s happening, the two jabs sadly do start to wane, so we’ve got to be responsible and we’ve got to reflect that fact in the way we measure what constitutes full vaccination.”

Johnson said the government will be making plans to add the booster to the digital COVID-19 passport issued by the National Health Service.

Funny about this.  Watching the FDA advisory committee meeting they were against boosters for all but after they voted against boosters almost unanimously they reworded the question to be boosters for 65+ and those "at high risk" without defining it.  Now it's boosters for all.  I know that was about the UK but it's only a matter of time until the US does the same.  I'd rather they move to it sooner rather than later, finally convinced my wife to move and I don't want to move somewhere that's going to have vax passports.  Would be nice to know where it's going to happen and not.

    Disengaging from the systems

Quite a few people ask this - but I don't think there is any safe place. Some of us are 'disengaging' from the systems where we live - the systems that seem to want to destroy or enslave us.

For me, that means being frugal & more self-sufficient - which I already do. So does this chap:

Tight supply lines further compromised by adverse weather

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/bc-floods-rail-impact-1.6250554

The complex problem of moving goods from Point A to Point B has been made even more complicated by record-breaking rainfall and flooding in B.C. that have washed out rail lines and highways in the Lower Mainland.

Experts say the floods have taken an already tight supply chain and made it even tighter, at the worst possible time.

"It's not going to be good," said Barry Prentice, a professor of supply chain management at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.

Most highways in and out of Vancouver have effectively been shut down, bringing truck traffic to a crawl. While trucks are used for shorter haul distances of comparatively smaller loads, trains handle the bulk of transport.

All rail traffic in and out of the Port of Vancouver has been halted, the port confirmed to CBC News in a statement Tuesday. "A timeframe for re-opening of the rail lines will be known once damage assessments are complete," spokesperson Matti Polychronis said. ...

The pics in the link show the incredible devastation of this 'extreme' storm. I have never in my life seen rain come down that hard! Had water coming into my living room from under the deck door - a first in this well sheltered location. Mopped up okay - no damage 👍🏻 The downpour just completely overwhelmed the drainage gutters and downspouts, causing all to overflow. Zowee! 🤿🦺☔🌊

    Jab mitigation fm Steve Hirsch

How can I medicate pre- and post-vax to minimize risk?
Nobody knows, but if it were me (and there is no way I’m ever going to get a COVID vaccine again), I would pre- and post- medicate with ivermectin, fluvoxamine, NAC, vitamin D, aspirin, hydroxychloroquine, and pravastatin. Dosages can be found here. This should limit the inflammation and clotting with no downside risk. If you do this, please let me know how it goes.

Stuff of all sorts used to be built with forever in mind, now infrastructure (and everything else) is generational at best, very little repairable design. The storms that are intermittent reek havoc on these short term planning structures. Yes we got a lot of rain, and the flood plains, well, they flooded, the mountain slopes slid, and poor drainage and lack of roof overhangs became more problematic. But this is a rainforest, no? Storm effects (local mountain weather) are not reported unless urban events. Good planning helps a-lot, not perfect, but it's better than none (and sorely lacking most of the time). In the past few years I have had 12 ft storm surges, inches per hour rain, winds >100 mph; none of it reported, as it did not affect the bigger urban areas. Its the North Pacific and the mountains! (beautiful, except when it isn't). It did take a while to pump out the pool cover for my laps though, while all those BTUs swirled into the air.
