Gardening for survival

I started a garden last year with the goal of raising and preserving enough quality food, with enough variety, to survive with minimal retail food acquisition.  I am midway through my second year. I live in zone 8. I have sandy to sandy loam soil.

My first year, I started an irrigation system with the goal of using drip irrigation throughout the garden.  My area averages 40" to 50" of rainfall per year (October through October).  We are currently in a multi year severe drought.  I have access to drinkable well water and city water.

Las Vegas, NV Preppers

Las Vegas Preppers is about Survival, Preparedness and Sustainable Living. Family is first and preparing for an emergency at home is just as important as home or automobile insurance. We are here to promote a positive image and will remove inappropriate matter.

Kingman Arizona Preppers

Welcome.  This forum is to provide an anonomous place to meet like minded people.  Then take it offline if applicable.  An objective is to prepare yourself and your family in case of a currency collapse.  If you are into mathematics or statistics, then you know what we are up against.  The "Amero" (or a new currency) will be implemented after our own currency collapses (likely scenario).  However, "when" it is implemented will be very carefully orchestrated to be when we are all out of resources.  Our objective is to not panic

If you live within 250 miles of zip 64628, what resilient/sustainable actions have you taken to improve your part of the world?

What post-peak skills do you have are are you developing?
Do you live without flush toilets at home?
What food do you raise at home?
What have you repaired yourself this past year?
How do you live without public water supply?
How will you get along when the power goes out for several days?
How will you get along when you get snowed in for several days?
What else might you do to improve the ability of your neighborhood (15 mile radius)

Long Term Food Storage/Bulk Food Suppliers UK

Hello UK.

I thought I would start a discussion on Long Term food storage & Prepping, in an attempt to create a useful resource for people in UK.

This is just a starter to get people to add their useful information to the discussion and hopefully the response will be great. Please add any resource you feel will help with UK Prepping.

I found this site to be of great use if you want to know the shelf life of virtually any food ......

Tidewater Virginia - Community and Resiliency

To help people in the Tidewater area of southeastern Virginia and surrounding areas connect to exchange ideas on building community and adding resiliency in preparation for whatever the future brings.  We have a small (~25), but functioning group of like minded individuals and families that have already executed a Long Term Food Storage project, as well as an ongoing permaculture and Square Foot Gardening project where we exchange ideas, seeds and fruits (and veggies) of labor.

Toronto Resiliency Group

This group is for people in Toronto or the surrounding area to discuss the hard pressed times we are experiencing today.  The objective is to face reality head on and get some good ideas to build resilience and a community in the Toronto area.  The idea is to talk about the specific issues people are having in Toronto and to build a plan around those issues.

It would be ideal to have enough interest to meet occasionally at a physical location with the purpose of taking action on the topics discussed with the intent on making a change.
