post-apocalypse survival

Planning or Preparing

I was driving near my home in Cobb County, Georgia yesterday and noticed a sign posted in front of a small business.  You know the type: a catchy saying tying to get your attention so that you will remember that particular insurance agency, etc. when you would otherwise not even know it exits.

Time to batten down the hatches?

Michael Snyder, in his signature way, is advising readers to batten down the hatches regarding your safety based on recent developments.  I live in Philadelphia so I battened down my hatches a long time ago. However, just this week a began carrying a second spare Glock magazine on my belt and wearing a Kevlar vest TO CHURCH (mostly because of a "premonition" re: ISIS).  Trouble is brewing, but I'm not sure I see it the same way Snyder does.

a call to relocate to Europe

my argument is simple: mankind did not pop into existence a few thousand years ago. So what are you prepping for? A limited cataclysm did not wipe the Earth clean of people 13,000 years ago. It was much more serious than that. Our ancestors were neither suicidal, retarded, nor ignorant. And yet they were thrown into a new stone age (after building things like Puma Punku which we couldn't build today if we chose to).

Real world survival tips from Ukraine (via FerFAL)

FerFAL, author of Surviving the Economic Collapse, recently posted some very valuable survival tips on his website gleaned from people who are surviving in the current civil war in Ukraine.  There are numerous very valuable lessons we can learn from the survivors' accounts and advice, and we should learn them now vicariously before we have to learn them by personal experience in the "School of Hard Knocks."

Peak Prosperity in the Mitten

We invite preparedness-minded people in Michigan to join us for discussion and sharing. We seek to apply Peak Prosperity principles, news and information to our region. Let's see what happens and where interested families can work together in individual and community opportunities to protect, preserve and prepare for the next 20 years.

Mental preparation for that moment when you are attacked

A few days ago I posted a news article about a Detroit mother who defended herself from three armed home invaders using a rifle.

Hello! We are delighted to find this site, looks like a wonderful resource! Allow me to introduce us, my husband and I have been trying to make it affordable for poor people to thrive, without or without TEOTWAWKI. The best "food solution" we have found is aquaponics. Here is our first system:

We are not "experts" but we are happy to answer any and all questions that we can.

Interested in group food storage meetups?

Anyone here interested in meeting up to do some group food storage?

Two things come to mind for me:

  • Long term storage along the lines of sealing rice, beans, etc, into mylar bags with oxygen absorbers.
  • Canning - Maybe even swapping where each person brings enough of something to can --say, 12 jars-- and all 12 people take a can of each item home.

In either case I imagine people sharing equipment and knowledge, and maybe doing some community building in the process.

Community As Process

Members may be interested in a new blog by Tom Harriman addressing the challenges confronting Americans as conditions deteriorate. He apparently expects things to get much worse, and he's asking for feedback for a book he is writing. The focus seems to be the way we think about our vision, personal responsibility, and how to work together effectively despite differences of opinion, perspective, ethnicity, etc. He is addressing Americans, but it all seems applicable to everyone.
