Time to Spread the Message

Friday, April 15, 2011, 8:37 PM

Chris' book version of the Crash Course has been out for almost a month now. So far it's receiving strong praise, and we have Chris busy on the media treadmill promoting it. Now we need your help to catapult the book and its message into the mainstream consciousness.

Here's why: Book sales in the early weeks following a book release matter greatly. These numbers have a huge influence on how many books the big retail distributors (Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Borders) decide to stock. The more books they put on the shelves, the more get sold - which then gets the media's attention. If we're fortunate, a virtuous cycle ensues. We believe (obviously) that this material deserves the widest attention possible.

The book is a much deeper dive into the critical material contained in the video series, updated for the many developments (both in the world and in Chris' analysis) that have unfolded since the videos were first created in 2008. The early reviews are unanimous in this regard. The book also contains a lot of new predictions from Chris on topics like resource scarcity, obstacles to economic growth, and the vulnerability of our complex energy system - which already look astoundingly prescient, given the volatile events characterizing 2011 so far (escalating food and energy prices, the Fukushima disaster, mid-east unrest, skyrocketing gold and silver prices, continued dollar weakness, bailouts for Portugal and Ireland, etc.)

Whether you've already read the book or not, you can definitely help our efforts in using it to create awareness of the core Crash Course tenets among mass audiences. Here's how:

  1. Purchase copies for your family and anyone in your community who you think could be receptive to the ideas within.
  2. Purchase a copy for your local library, if it doesn't already have one.
  3. Write a review of the book on Amazon.
  4. Refer the book to any relevant media contacts (local or larger) that you may have.
  5. Host a discussion group on the book in your neighborhood.

We have a few recommended ways to purchase the book:

  • Buy from your local bookstore - as mentioned above, these sales are the ones with the maximum impact. This is the data that the big retail buyers look at to measure consumer demand/interest.
  • Buy from PeakProsperity.com - for those who buy from us, we're offering the following discounts/bonuses:
    • Book + DVD package: for $28, we'll ship you the hardcover edition + the 45-min DVD version of the Crash Course anywhere in the continental US (Please note:  The 45-minute DVD plays only on computers or PAL/DVD players.)
    • Signed 1st edition: for $36, Chris will sign and inscribe a hardcover book for you, which we'll ship anywhere in the continental U.S. For $5 more, we'll also include the 45-minute DVD (a 50% discount).  (Please see above note regarding DVD.)
    • Those interested in either of the above should contact Megan Walsh ([email protected]). Megan can also provide pricing for orders outside of the continental U.S.

Buying online is fine, too. The book is available from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders and many other online booksellers. E-reader versions (Kindle, Nook, Kobo, etc) are available as well.

We're aware this post risks coming across as a "buy our stuff" advertorial. Our regular readers know that we are not in the habit of shilling, and we trust our guidance here is taken in its intended context. What we care about is reaching as wide an audience as necessary to create a world worth inheriting.

We've invested a tremendous amount of effort in making the book the best vehicle possible for this site's mission: to create a tipping point of awareness of the future risks our society faces and to enable people to take informed action as early as possible.

If the book is going to succeed at that, this is the moment to put our maximum support behind it.

Many thanks,

Adam, Chris, and the PeakProsperity.com staff

Widest audience...

"We're aware this post risks coming across as a "buy our stuff" advertorial..... What we care about is reaching as wide an audience as necessary to create a world worth inheriting."

Make the Kindle / ebook version free! It's much easier to recommend it that way and it accurately reflects your distribution costs for that media making the quote above more believeable.

Bool2. (Love the crash course btw... fantastic piece of work.)

if the book has even more

if the book has even more info than the video, then it is well worth the money. I dont take this in a bad light at all. The more it sells, the more stores will pick it up and put in on their shelves, AND the longer they will keep it in stock. Makes sense to me.

Cant make something like this free, it costs a fortune to print and produce......we gotta be realistic about it

Read It. Loved It. Giving them away

I bought four from Amazon on a preorder, and gave 3 of them to my friends & family members.  The book is fascinating and much more detailed than I expected.  Worth the money and an excellent gift.  I'm giving one to everyone on my list which helps support the cause, and gets the shopping for birthdays, etc over with.

The information in this book

The information in this book should be the basis of a mandatory course for all high school and college students.  I'm talking to my local educators now.

I'm with you, Adam!  I've

I'm with you, Adam!  I've already given a copy to our local town library.  Then, when the book amved at our local bookstore, I bought a copy with thoughts of helping early sales in mind, just as you mentioned.  I consider this an investment in the future that my son, and all our children, will be inheriting.

So I will be happy to buy some additional  copies for local college libraries.  I think the colleges and the local population will  benefit by having this material readily available to those who choose to learn.  And I feel good about trying to make a positive investment in the future.

Best of luck with the book sales, Adam, and thanks for all you do for the CM site and community!

I purchased 6 copies; I have

I purchased 6 copies; I have already given 3 of those 6 to friends and family. Another 2 will go to other friends and, of course, I am keeping 1 for myself.

My 3 copies....

...have all arrived at their destinations (Mother/Step-Dad, Brother/Sister-in-law, and myself).  I'm about 1/2way through and I'll post a review on Amazon when I'm done.

FWIW, the book is currently the #11 best seller in the "Ecology" category, #27 in "Economics", and #42 in "Accounting & Finance"...

Copies for government

I'm putting in my initial order for 4 books, one going straight to my City councillor, where they're all fixated on eternal growth.

I'd love to see Chris on RT or maybe Max Keiser.

doin' my duty!

To spread the word and give my people enlightened options.  Ordered 2 from Amazon (now that Borders is closing, Kauai has no real bookstore....), one for me and the other passed through the family, hopefully.  Would like to extend a welcome to our first commenter.  But getting something for "free"?  I think in these times, we need to acknowledge there really is no such thing as a free lunch ('cept for the CC online!!), and be thankful that some true value is still available- but it does cost.  Just me thinking again (Yikes!).  Aloha, Steve.

some ideas for promoting

Even if your local library has it, another copy won't be bad will it?  Churches and synogogues sometimes have libraries too.  Schools?  Colleges?

Start putting a blurb with Amazon link as a footer on all your emails.  Give as birthday gifts (you have to spend some money anyway).  Buy a bunch and sell them on Ebay.  Raffle it off as a part of a "survival" gift basket at your next community fundraiser.  Buy a bunch and hand them out on the street corner-consider it your non-tax deductable charity for this year-maybe you could make a video while you're at it.

See if your community alternative theater will show the DVD-oh, not sure this is legal-Chris, help?  Have a "Crash Course" DVD party with your friends-you better have good wine and hors d'oeuvres so they don't go home too depressed.

Hey Chris, how about an audio version?  What about putting ads on blogs?  I'll be mentioning it on my blog.

Good luck and God bless...

another idea

Oh, I just got another idea:  Write a musical based on the book.  Maybe you can even get Snookie to star in it-can she sing?

Okay, a few weeks of "survival panic mode" (its your fault Chris, along with Ruppert!) and this is what happens to your brain.

Another idea for promoting

Dear Chris,

Thanks for all your work!

In terms of promoting the book, this is something I saw work elsewhere: if you set a date for everyone to order their copy off Amazon, on that date Amazon should get a spike in demand they notice.

Cheers,

Gregor

Thank you all!

Wow, the response has been enormously helpful to our book ranking.

This is incredible, #473 this morning (and note the ranks in the subcategories):

I guess self-promotion does work (even if it feels a bit uncomfortable).  :)

Took the "Price For All Three" option from Amazon....  can't wait for them to arrive!

By the way.... LOVE THE COVER...  the picture says it all.

Thanks, Chris for your work, and to all who contribute to this site.

:)

Hi Chris,

Just ordered mine. Watched your presentations a long..long time ago and have been hooked ever since. Though I'm not really able to afford a full membership here (graduate student..) I am thankful for the open community and hope that by buying the book I'm not only able to convince more friends of mine to spend some of their time to read & prepare but also to show support & appreciation for your work. And just as a side note, if I have overlooked the option to obtain a "student subscription" like for some other websites (trendsjournal is 25 USD which is much easier to afford..) then please let me know. Thanks again =)

Please everyone, keep the good work going.

Thanks, Germanni

Now if we can just get Oprah or the NYT to take notice. :-)

Chris,

CONGRATS.  (I bought my kindle copy yesterday, no idea why I hadn't done it sooner, I had intended to—see, promotion isn't a bad thing, it's sometimes a welcome reminder.)

I found this chart online.  A good guide to determining how you're doing in terms of sales rank on Amazon.  (By one of the contributors to the book: Math You Can't Use: Patents, Copyright, and Software)

Here is the original link with a bunch of math and lots of charts and graphs.  (Your kind of thing. But seemingly, one can't actually use the math, that is at least according to his book title.)

http://fluff.info/blog/arch/00000188.htm

Apparently, we just need to find someone who knows Oprah.  Then you're set.  ;-)

Promotion?

How about this Adam: Any sales within the first month or so gets a free week or so of membership on the site. This way, people can get a peek at the extra content, without actually hurting too much membership revenues.

Rating on Amazon

I added my somewhat less than eloquent review/rating on Amazon. I think the more reviews we can add the better it will be for sales.

I like both !

The video presentation is wonderful, because it really illustrates all the heart of the message. It really explains money creation and the workings of the Federal Reserve etc.

The book is great because it goes into so much detail.  As others have said, don't think for a moment that you don't need the book simply because you have seen all the videos.  All can say is the book is rich with details and also possible outcome scenarios!   Besides that it is almost like sitting down with Chris and having him explain everthing to you personally. At times I felt like the book was written just for me.  Trust me, you need this book!

Awesome work Chris!!Laughing

Thoughts about getting message out

It occurred to me that there are many very large churches in America which have charismatic leaders - if you could get one of these leaders interested in this, you could get thousands of new readers. Here is a website that lists the largest churches: http://www.sermoncentral.com/articleb.asp?article=Top-100-Largest-Churches. Also, send a copy to Peter Peterson, whose anti-debt crusade was featured in the NYT  on April 10th.(http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/10/nyregion/10peterson.html?_r=1&scp=48&s...) He appears to be a thought leader of sorts. If you can ID any thought leaders in the Tea Party, might want to send them a copy and ask for a review also. If I was seeking a wider audience for this, I would also network among your extremely high net worth readers/fans, and ask them whom they would send it to to increase exposure. What about leading Republican publications like the National Review? Timing dovetails nicely with todays S&P announcement - mainstream doubt about the US debt situation.

A long time church member

A long time church member approached me and asked what is going on with the economy.   I provided her the link to this website and told her to be sure to watch The Crash Course.  She asked me to put together a course for the church to inform a broader spectrum of individuals about the mess we are in.   I simply don't have the time (or energy).   Maybe I should revisit the idea now that a book is available.

I have thought about getting Chris at our church.  One of the members is the editor of the local paper and with a little prodding there is a good chance it would make the front page (county has a population of about 600,000).  If any on this site has attended Bible studies, Revelations will consistently fill the room.  Selling the 3E's dovetailes nicely into end times.

Adam, Excellent thread and

Adam,

Excellent thread and thank you for it.

Chris,

Excellent, excellent job on the book!  The detailed information and expansion of the subject matter is really a big help when giving seminars. I have tabbed the book so I can quicky reference a fact, quote, etc.when needed.

My 10 original copies are gone.....except for my own copy which I won't lend out! So I'll call Megan tomorrow and get some signed editions coming to Sonora!!!!!   I have been taken aback a tad lately as people have been asking me to sign their books!!!  I said what's up with that..... Chris has done all the work!!!!!   Anyway I'm happy to do that for them and further the broader message that all of the Brigade members and CC grads carry forward.

Recently I have had a rash of folks who have heard me discussing the CC over the past couple years  say in so many words ......"You were talking about the need for long term food storage a while ago and I think I need to do that now. What shall I do?" So I did a Saturday six hour CC last weekend using the 45 min DVD and then we discussed the prep and food issues and I got the next round of food packers off the starting block and into the game.

I also especially enjoyed the event because it marked my return to the game as well after my random act of stupidty with regard to the fine art of motorcycle riding.......or was it motorcycle crashing. Anyway, I can use the experience to sell my own version of the Crash Course so to speak,  but I recommend yours over mine any day!!!!!!!

We have also been extremely busy with our upcoming community building and food secuity planning. This years potato patch project has expanded by 100%. We have had people step forward with unsolicited donations for greenhouses, fencing, farm implements and so on.  The local CSA's are also all doing well and expanding.

We have a Seed Bank started on the site of last years potato patch. There will be a seed harvest and sorting event planned for this Fall. There are also plans for our local Community Kitchen in the works which will include cellars for local tier two foods.

Basically the local awareness is changing and it feels like one of those dang hockey sticks!!    Thanks for all the great info you continue to produce on the CM  website. I am a regular but am having to troll a lot due to local organizational requirements and all that other fun stuff. Cheers!

Coop

Big savings on the 3-hour DVD

At $18.34, the book alone doesn't qualify for free shipping from Amazon. Add the DVD (3-hour version) at $7.99 and you are over the $25 needed to qualify. As a result, you save $4.98 in shipping, thus buying the DVD only adds $3.01 to the bill ... and you can send it to your skeptical friend/relative. I know you have at least one. quad
