Seminar Announcement - The Crash Course: Thriving in Any Future

Monday, March 2, 2009, 4:51 PM

I want to draw your attention to the announcement for a weekend long Crash Course seminar in Virginia, coming up this April (24-26).

You can also view this seminar announcement at any time by clicking on the link located on the upper right side of this page under "Upcoming Events."

The poster you know as "Cat" has graciously offered to handle most of the arrangements.  Thank you, Cat!

The Crash Course: Thriving in Any Future

For those who missed Rowe in February: A Crash Course seminar will be held in April in a beautiful, remote, rustic conference center in Lowesville VA (about one hour from Charlottesville)

Where:

CrossRoads Camp and Conference Center
2247 Little Piney Road
Lowesville, VA 22967

http://www.crossroadsccc.com

When:

April 24 (Friday), dinner begins at 6:00, conference at 7:30

April 25 (Saturday), morning until night and maybe then some.

April 26 (Sunday), lunch at 12:00, leave at your own pace after that.

Registering:

To reserve your spot, click here and scroll to the bottom of the page.  To have your questions answered, please contact Katherine (Cat) Hartman at:

  • 757-471-7800 or
  • [email protected]
  • 50% deposit required, payment in full by the start of the seminar.

Cost (this is all inclusive - seminar, materials, lodging and six meals):

  • Cabin (shared accommodations) - $385 with linens; $375 without linens
  • Double occupancy in hotel - $440 (This is the per person rate if you have two people in a room.)
  • Triple occupancy in hotel - $415
  • Quadruple occupancy in hotel - $405

Prerequisites prior to arrival at the seminar:

  • You must watch the Crash Course (yes, the whole thing)
  • You must complete the Self-Assessment

The Place:

The conference center is both remote and rustic, yet has all the necessary facilities for a great weekend seminar. Our experience at Rowe is that a sense of isolation from the rest of the world helps to create the right environment for the learnings and discussions we will be conducting.

Description of the seminar:

The seminar builds upon the Crash Course. We will spend minimal time on the details of the existing Crash Course material itself, instead focusing on the larger implications of the material as well as on new data and conclusions.

We will provide you with tools that you can use to identify where people (yourself included) are in the process of adjusting to the new reality. This will help you take actions to prepare yourself, locate, and work with others who share your outlook. We will provide training on how to go from "alone" to "connected," using the extensive trial and error experiences of Chris and Becca as a model.

In parallel, we will examine the closely held, and often unexamined, beliefs that prevent us from believing our own eyes and taking necessary actions.

The basic elements we will cover are (note: this is not the agenda):

  • The Crash Course major themes; their interconnections and implications
  • Inflation vs. Deflation
  • Derivatives
  • Other current events that are currently in the news
  • "Our Story" - What Chris and Becca did to prepare and how they did it
  • The Six Stages of Awareness (in greater detail)
  • Working through the Self-Assessment worksheets in small group settings
  • Separating facts, opinions, and beliefs
  • Limiting vs. enhancing beliefs - which do you hold right now?
  • The Crash Course Toolbox
  • Predicaments vs problems
  • Naming fears
  • A vision for the future
  • Operating in groups - the importance of community
  • The path forward

Each of these either represents a discrete seminar element or a thread that will be woven throughout the weekend. We may add or subtract elements before or during the seminar if warranted.

We hope you can join us!

My wife and I attended Rowe...the experience was so good we consider it a turning point in our lives!

Now there's another seminar in Viginia! We want to go that one also!! Alas, we live in CA ...

Sooo, would a west coast seminar be in the works for the near future?

Amen to a West Coast Seminar, or let's say a California seminar, say halfway between LA & SF at either San Luis Obispo or Santa Maria.

Who knew Mrs. Dogs could channel Horace Greeley?

The left coasters should fly into Richmond and drive out to Lowesville. You might not want to go back....

Unless you live in the mountains of Northern CA or Oregon - then I'll go back with you.

As a Rowe attendee I will put in my .02. It really is important to be up to speed on the CC before you attend or you and your fellow attendees will be at different levels of understanding, considerably complicating Chris and Becca's ability to speak at a level with which all are comfortable. They might even have to use run-on sentences like mine!!

DIAP,

The only non-stop flights I could find were from San Francisco to Dulles. How is the drive from Dulles to Lowesville? The airports I looked into other than Richmond were Greensboro and Charlotte.

hucklejohn,

I love that area however it is a bit remote for anyone flying in.I think a retreat North of San Francisco would be ideal because of the accessibility of airports. LA has many frequent flights to either Oakland, SFO or Sacramento.

Coop -

Dulles is about 3 hours to Lowesville and once you are clear of the DC area not a bad drive on 29.

Richmond is about 2 hours to Lowesville so you save an hour.

Greensboro is just under 3 hours away.

Charlotte is just over 4 hours.

Richmond is closest - you'll have to decide between cost and direct flights among the others.  I wouldn't fly into Charlotte unless the savings was substantial, but the drive up to Lowesville from Charlotte or Greensboro takes you through the Piedmont and a very nice part of NC and VA.

Shoot me an email if you have any other questions.

I'll speak to an added bonus: For those that are bent on reviving Jeffersonian principles, there is a good chance that some of us will visit Monticello (his house) and wander Charlottesville on the morning of the 24th (Friday). I'm looking forward to meeting everyone there!

Mike -

Will there be moonshine?  I mean, we should probably learn how to make it for medicinal purposes.  And what betterway than to tour a working still and sample clinical trials????

Okay, that sounds like a good idea.  I'll be doing what Mrs. Dogs thinks I should be doing on game day so we'll see.

Anybody attending from the Leesburg area and interested in carpooling?

Edit...

Saw from other posts that some may be flying in. I am close to Dulles and may be able to pick up a couple people and drive them down and back, depending on times.

Mike,

Add two to your bonus package tour!  We will be arriving in Charlottesville on Thursday evening (for Dogs moonshine madness!) and will be ready for a bit of history on Friday morning.

Let us know where you want to meet up.

Re: Seminar Announcement - The Crash Course: Thriving in ...

I think this would be a good thread to square up an order of "business," if I might call it that.

I've recently found myself with an opportunity that I feel I can't pass up. I've received an improved job offer that I think will give me a chance to interact with more people and spread the message I've been trying to. The job will focus on alternative energy and energy efficiency and will also give me a chance to perform and educational role. I will certainly seize the opportunity to touch on "Crash Concepts" whenever I possibly can...

At the same time, I have a close friend that is finishing up 3 years studying in Spain. He is a dual US / Spanish citizen and has a lot of family there. After frantic preparations for the past 6 months, I've declared it time for me to take a break. I will be joining him in Spain from March 27-April 22 while I am between jobs. I'm certainly looking forward to exploring the area and meeting the family he has. As you can see, I've ensured that I will be back in time for Rowe, though I'm sure I will spend all day on the 23rd "catching up" on things that have been going on.

So...just wanted to let everyone know of my planned absence. I will be able to check in from time to time from Spain, but not with the regularity I do now. If anyone wants to e mail me in my absence, I will happily read any insights or tidbits you send along!

I've had some second thoughts about traveling at a time like this, but it's an opportunity I wouldn't like to pass up and I'm certainly taking every precaution I can to make sure I feel secure enough to do this. I've been to Spain before, but if anyone wants to give me any input on cool things they might have done there, please let me know!

And of course, I'm going to miss everyone while I'm away. I will be eagerly looking forward to the conference!

*Dogs / Cat - this means no Dismal Swamp Stomp :( But I am going to continue to train as if I was actually doing it. The point was to increase my fitness and I plan on accomplishing that goal irrespective of my trip!

Mike -

Have a great trip

We'll miss you at the Stomp.  There's always the Rock and Roll Half on Labor Day weekend if you enjoy running for 2 1/2 hours in 80+ degree weather, in near 100% humidity, risking heat stroke just for a T shirt, a medal and free beer.

I am planning on running my first full marathon in November in the OBX Marathon - weekend of 11/9 I think.  I have an obsession with finding out where my wall is.

Seminar Announcement - The Crash Course: Thriving in ...

Greetings fellow Crash
Course Fans,

Since this is my first
post on this site, please allow me to introduce myself.  My name is David, and I will be attending the
Virginia conference
at the end of April.

I was introduced to this
website via Mike Pilat (formerly known as Student of Jefferson), a good friend
of mine from high school.  He has flooded
my inbox with all sorts of links to this site and others over the past six
months.  In fact, there are days when I
receive more e-mails and links from him than I do from my boss and co workers!  It has been an excellent resource during the
past few months.  I would like to start
off by thanking Chris and the rest of you who make this page what it is.

I am looking forward to
meeting you all at the conference and enhance my understanding of the topics you
all discuss so frequently.  I have been
working in Spain and studying
a MA at the University of Navarra, Pamplona,
in economics and business studies for the past three years (I actually just
defended my thesis today, and passed! all done!)  Mike told me that since I have finished preparing the thesis, I should introduce myself on the Martenson site.  He is right – I have been passive far too
long.  Hope to meet you all soon!

Hasta pronto,

DFR

Three Weeks Until the Lowesville Seminar

The Lowesville Seminar is rapidly approaching.  Time to make up your minds and commit - this one promises to be every bit as good as Rowe.

Hope to see a lot of new people there...............
