Erik's changing role at ChrisMartenson.com

Tuesday, January 13, 2009, 5:05 PM

When I first discovered the Crash Course last summer, only the first 15 chapters had been completed, but I was still awestruck. I'd never seen anyone do a better job than Chris had done at organizing so many seemingly disparate topics into a single, cohesive message. And frankly, I was a bit envious. My favorite part of my business career was the public speaking I used to do - giving keynote talks at professional conferences and trade shows in the software industry. When I first watched the Crash Course, I thought "Boy, would I love to present this material myself!" Of course I would never try to steal or plagiarize Chris' material, and assured him of this when I first met him. But Chris was quick to say "Wait a minute, this is about promoting the cause, and if you want to help, I'm all for it!". Chris' selflessness and commitment to doing the right thing for society never ceases to amaze me. I was elated to have the opportunity to use Chris' presentation materials myself.

But as I got to know Chris, I realized he was overwhelmed by the site's exponential growth. When I saw that he needed help from a business development standpoint, I felt compelled to offer my assistance in that area as well. We've come a long way in the past few months! The Crash Course is finished, we have a DVD version, our Martenson Brigade of volunteers is growing daily, and the site itself is in a much more sustainable condition. But ironically, my participation in the Business Manager role has left me with little spare time to focus on the part of this project that I feel personal passion for, which is promoting the Crash Course through live public speaking events. At first I thought I could do both, but it's been more work than I first anticipated.

Now that the site is in stable condition and a sustainable business model is in place, I've asked Chris to transition me out of the Business Manager role, and allow me to focus on the work I'm personally passionate about and which initially drew me to this effort. I'll be giving the first live talk promoting the Crash Course in downtown San Francisco on February 17th, and welcome help from the community identifying more speaking opportunities. The presentation I've prepared is basically a 1-hour condensed and reorganized "readers digest version", which is designed to capture the audience's interest and leave them eager to watch the full-length Crash Course. I'll still be here participating in the forums as a member of the Crash Course community, but my former management responsibilities will be assumed by the rest of Chris' able team.

I'd like to thank everyone in this community for your support in recent months. I'm proud to have contributed to this effort, but we'd never be where we are today without the numerous contributions of so many people in this community. Thank you all for your continuing support for this critically important cause.

Re: Erik's changing role at ChrisMartenson.com

It is with bittersweet emotions that I watch Erik move towards the role we both knew, right from the start, lay in his future. I am thrilled to have such a passionate and articulate promoter dedicating his time to spreading the message of the Crash Course but I regret losing his sage business experience and energy on multiple projects, both underway and envisioned.

Before Erik came the Crash Course was not yet done, our web traffic was a fraction of its current daily total, no translations had yet begun, and there was no DVD. We can all thank Erik for having a hand in this progress.

I want to publicly thank Erik for all that he’s done to progress the site to a more stable and sustainable position. Those efforts will be sorely missed. And for the doubters that thought Erik was “in this for the money”, or had some hidden downstream interest, you can now rest assured that Erik’s motives were pure and that he gave of himself to help build awareness and spread the word. I understand how those doubts can be held because it is so rare these days to run into people who give freely of themselves to a cause, but that’s what Erik did.

I am anxiously awaiting news from his future public presentation experiences. Please join me in thanking Erik for all he’s done, and will continue to do, to promote the Crash Course.

Best,

Chris Martenson

Re: Erik's changing role at ChrisMartenson.com

Erik, you done good; thanks!

I know how much your help aided Chris and the cause of the Crash Course!  Chris had taken on a Herculean task developing the Crash Course.  I remember some months ago, when he shared his daily time-budget with us , I think hoping we'd be a little more patient in awaiting each new chapter!  I absolutely cringed at the grueling hours he was putting in, sun-up to sundown!   It was obvious from this observor's  perspective how having you shoulder a substantial part of the burden made a difference in freeing him up to finish the course, and then continue to do what he does best!

You can feel proud of the role you've played here.  What a cool thing that you stepped up to play such an important supporting role in communicating Chris's message!

I bet you'll be great at presenting the "teaser" version of it to folks.  Thanks again for your help! (Heck, we'd STILL be waiting for Chapter 20!:)

Go get 'em!

Re: Erik's changing role at ChrisMartenson.com

Dear Erik,

I'm delighted for you, and for the "cause." I wish I could be in San Francisco to see your inaugural presentation. I'm super-curious to see how you'll do what you describe. And I too am a little envious. Like you, once I saw Chris' work, I wanted very much to get into presentation of the material, having also had teaching and public speaking experience, and feeling passionately about the issues and Chris' masterful approach.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll be terrific presenting this material !

I am sorry to be losing you in your role as Business Manager for the site, but I'm sure others will step up to the plate.

I want to thank you for the enormous contributions you've made to helping Chris develop the site, the dvd, and his vision for getting these crucial messages into the hands, hearts and minds of vastly more people, and the more of the "change agents." What tremendous strides you all have made in a relatively short time, on a shoe-string!

Good Luck, Erik, we'll all be waiting for updates, applauding your successes and supporting you with the inevitable challenges.

Warmly,

Wendy Thomson

Re: Erik's changing role at ChrisMartenson.com

Eric,

I just wanted to add my thanks to you for your efforts in helping Chris finish the Crash Course and improve the delivery on this website. In a way I envy your new role in promoting the crash course.

I have been wrestling with how to prepare a similar teaser presentation. I have taught the complete Crash Course over a six-week period to some retirees at Our Academy of Learning in Retirement and it was well received. However the total time involved in the presentation was 7 1/2 hours (six weeks at 1 1/4 hour classes per week).

I am considering doing a similar presentation to members of our church congregation. But I'm concerned about the length of time it would take to make the complete presentation. So I am in the process of trying to come up with some way to present the material in a much shorter period of time, say one hour.

I am wondering if it would be possible for you to share some of your ideas for your presentation so that we might take some of those ideas and incorporate them into similar presentations in our local communities.

I know I would be most grateful to have some ideas for creating such a presentation.

Again, thanks for your dedication to the Crash Course and I wish you luck with your promotion efforts.

Best regards,

Don

As part of my post #32 in the "Must See" forum thread, i stated the following:

... how few honest people are left out there. Cry

I'm pleased to see that you are one of those few. I wish you best of luck as you start this new adventure.

Also, to quote djhester1940:

"I am wondering if it would be possible for you to share some of your

I think that many of us on this site would like to see a "teaser" version of the CC. I'm pretty sure that a lot of my friends/acquaintences would sit still for an hour, but not 7.5 hours. Using that "teaser" version could be just the ticket to get them interested enough to watch the "full show"!

Eric,

Thanks for all you have done to help Chris get the ball rolling faster.  The above threads say it all and I and I agree.

I have several people I want to bring to your opening event in San Francisco on the 17th of Feb..  Would you let me know the specifics on time, place etc. I also sent a memo to your website. Thanks

Congratulations Erik!

Thank you for all your work- I am sure you would be a captivating speaker.  I also aspire to do this sort of thing, but for now I have to remain contented with practicing on friends and family and classmates until I am more knowledgeable on all aspects of the crash course.

Please post a description of how it went.....

Please share.  I've been stumbling around doing the best I can, but materials would be of great assistance.  I would love to be responsible for getting presentations together for the Denver metro area.  I have limited time between full employment and night school, but that doesn't put me out of the game.

In any case, best wishes to you and your future.  You have taught me a lot of good stuff.

Best of luck in this endeavor, Erik! I'm sure you will do an excellent job carrying the torch to wider audiences. Perhaps I don't have the business experience that many on here do, but something tells me that the time is just about right to start stepping up the efforts to spread the word. Eventually a face needs to be behind the movement and I'm sure you will meet with success here.

Thanks for all of your help, insights, and advice.

Thanks Erik for your hard work.  I am committed to doing a short seminar at my office next month.  I'm not the best speaker but the understanding and passion I've gained here should help a lot.

Oh no!  The Crash Course itself is doomed by exponential growth?

 A ham is born!

Just kidding!  I hope you know my tongue is firmly in my cheek.

Seriously, that's great news.  You have done outstanding work for the site and the results are plain for anyone who has been around long enough to see the changes.  Thank you.

To have you out in the "real world" duplicating Chris's efforts is nothing short of fantastic.  With your background and passion for this message, I know you will have a tremendous impact.

 All the best, Erik.

Re: Erik's changing role at ChrisMartenson.com

Erik,

Thanks for your hard work in making PeakProsperity.com the platform we know today. I'm sure that your decision wasn't easy, but I do understand that it's way beyond a part time job that can be handled in your spare time. Gosh, even I find myself struggling by just reading stuff, making it somewhat difficult to run a business, especially in these hard times.

On the other hand I also believe that you will do an extraordinary good job in spreading the message. From an initial collection of small videos, we now have a DVD and new videos are in progress. Even presence on TV seems possible now. While it's all about Chris' message, that would not have been possible with all of the supporters worldwide, and you are certainly one of the biggest supporters at all, because you have dedicated most of your time in making in happen.

So all the best for you in your new role and keep us posted about how it goes and what we can do to support you.

Erik,

As I told you before, I am sorry to see you leave your current role but I am also happy that you are now able to do what you always wanted to do: spread a message you beileve in, to people you care for, in a format you love.

You have been a great mentor and I have learned much while working with you.

With that, I wish you the best of luck and much success.

Re: Erik's changing role at ChrisMartenson.com

thanks Erik for all your great work. When a leader is really backed by good help, it makes all the difference. Good luck with your lectures.

All of us are promoters of the CC.  You don't need to be able to completely explain all of the concepts. That's what the CC is for!  I just tell people about the baseball stadium filling with water and you are handcuffed to the seats etc. and explain about the copper nuggets and the copper mine and people seem to be eager for more.  I tell them that it has changed my life and that I am excited and it seems to work.  None of us needs to wait to be experts to do this.  Thanks to Chris, Erik and others, there are resourses to point people towards.
