U.S. Dollar & Currencies: Review and Outlook (Joe P.)

The European sovereign debt crisis dominated headlines for much of 2011. Market practitioners traded on the back of any change in sentiment regarding the ability of policy makers to put in place comprehensive measures to address the issues. Initially focused on the nations of Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal and Spain, the crisis quickly grew to engulf many core European countries, even having an effect on stalwart Germany, which suffered a failed bond auction towards the end of the year. Nonetheless, sovereign spreads over corresponding German bunds were used as a bellwether for market-ascribed fiscal health of European countries; we saw many spreads widen markedly during 2011.

DHS Officers Armed With Semiautomatics Set Up Unannounced ID Checkpoint (Phil H.)

The activity was part of Operation Shield, an unannounced drill conducted by the DHS’ Federal Protective Service centered around “detecting the presence of unauthorized persons and potentially disruptive or dangerous activities.”

Six Reasons To Avoid These Japan ETFs In 2012 (David B.)

A huge chunk of Japanese exports go to Europe. As you’ve surely noticed, the euro zone is having a few problems. A severe recession — or at best a few years of low growth — seem likely for 2012 and beyond.

If Europeans have no money to spend, their demand for imports (from Japan and elsewhere) is going to plummet. This is another bad sign for Japan.

Look To The Dollar As The U.S. Job Market Outperforms (David B.)

Critics of the ADP numbers say that the survey fails to account for the fact that companies avoid firing people at the end of the year.

Did Psychopaths Take Over Wall Street Asylum?: William D. Cohan (jdargis)

How do people with such obvious personality flaws make it to the top of seemingly successful corporations? Boddy says psychopaths take advantage of the “relative chaotic nature of the modern corporation,” including “rapid change, constant renewal” and high turnover of “key personnel.” Such circumstances allow them to ascend through a combination of “charm” and “charisma,” which makes “their behaviour invisible” and “makes them appear normal and even to be ideal leaders.”

Syrian rebel leader threatens to escalate attacks (jdargis)

The League mission has already been plagued by controversy. Protesters have complained about its small size and were appalled when the head of the mission suggested he was reassured by first impressions of Homs, one of the main centers of unrest.

Fragments Of A Defunct State (jdargis)

How to characterise the Putin regime, a now shaken and besieged ruling group sometimes said to be the richest in the history of the world? ‘Soft authoritarianism’, ‘hybrid regime’, ‘managed democracy’: the labels reveal less about Russia than about the inability of commentators to loosen the Cold War’s lingering hold on their thinking.

Energy

Continued Advances in Fuel Cell Technology (James S.)

It not a great surprise to close Apple watchers, Apple has filed other patent applications for light weight hydrogen fuel cells. Those patents, which were brought to light this past October, described a building process where multiple fuel cells are connected by a power bus in a parallel pattern, and a voltage-multiplying circuit is added for additional voltage from the stack.

eCat ordered.

I have pre-ordered a 5 to10 kW eCat.

Due to the high expected demand for ECAT products, orders will be put on a waiting list and delivery is scheduled for 2012/2013 (depending on product).

eCat and Firefly.

I look forward to hearing about your experience of it.

I am willing to spend money to get at the truth Firefly. My reading of the literature leads me to believe that the third nuclear way discovered by Pons and Fleishman has substance.

This whole saga has the makings of an Opera. Something along the lines of "Flash Gordon Saves the World." No dramatic embelishments are needed other than the mandatory love interest.

It is an amazing drama full of fragile egos wilting in the face of the crisis of a failing, corrupt civilization. A truely Biblical epic is in the making, and we are bit players.

Astounding but an historical fact. We were there. Take notes.

eCat Unexplained heat

 Arthur,

Have you read this article concerning the unexplanable aspects of the various eCat tests?

I'm inclined to believe they are trying to scam people.

Working E-Cat

The phenomena is real.   Several folks have seen and say the E-Cat does work, after answering enough of my questions...comfortable saying this will happen sooner versus later.

Also, a few have confirmed my question(s) of enthalpy variance (essentially amount of heat from the exothermic reaction).

Plan to wait at least a year myself.  Experience and intuition with new/future technologies suggest, in my view, this is the best course of action.

Reason:  May be lots of room for improved performance and efficacy of output from analysis of data.

The good news this should promote a realization that our understanding of nature is unbalanced and incomplete.  That would be the real treasure and benefit ahead for humanity.

Thanks Lawson.

Thank you for sharing the site with me Lawson.

It has the typical hot fusion response. I interpret it to be a Left Brain model of reality. The model is self-referential and sterile. They have a lot of ego at stake.

Due to the fact that the writer of the blog was discouraged from investigating the last 39 years of research in Cold Fusion I am not suprised he is taken aback by its "sudden resurgence."

I wish to express my sincere gratitude to you for your concern that I might be taken in by a scam. But I am going into this with my eyes open. I have read the literature, and digested as much of it as I am able to. My risks are minimised and balanced against the potential rewards.
