SPECIAL WEBINAR: A World Of Trouble

This Wed, 9/6, @ 3:30pm EST
Monday, September 4, 2017, 11:47 AM
, ,

We will be holding a special, quick-response webinar on this Wednesday to address the swift build-up of significant and serious geopolitical developments over the past few weeks.

Among them are:

  • Increased tensions with North Korea. President Trump's hostile rhetoric has raised the prospect of armed conflict to unacceptably high levels.
  • China's opening of yuan-based oil trading and an associated yuan-to-gold exchange mechanism
  • Increased trade hostility between the US and China
  • China's unhappiness with numerous US military decisions. This includes the THAAD system in South Korea and maritime cat-and-mouse actions around the south China sea islands
  • The tit-for-tat elevation of tensions with Russia, which involves very serious departures from established diplomatic norms. For example, Russia has actually charged the US with attempted physical breach of a diplomatic compound
  • Russia's recent order to its citizens to move away from the North Korea border

Put all of this together, and we've got a very fluid and dangerous situation developing.

Adam & I agree that the fastest way for me to connect the dots here for you as best I understand them is via our webinar platform. I'll lay out my current assessment of the major factors in play and their implications, as well as field your questions in real-time.

This World Of Trouble webinar will take place this coming Wednesday, 9/6, at 3:30pm EST/ 12:30pm PST. It will last approximately an hour.

The price to participate in this webinar is $25, unless you are an enrolled member of PeakProsperity.com (i.e. paying subscriber with access to our 'Insider' content). In that case, it's free

This will be our first-ever use of our new webinar platform for making sense of breaking news. Join us and let us know afterwards if you think this is an effective format we should do more of.

Post-Webinar Playback

A video recording of the webinar will be made available to participants after the webinar is over. That means there's no reason to worry if you can't make the live event, or need to skip out on parts of it due to meetings or other obligations. You'll be able to re-watch the webinar as much as you like.

So if this interests you, register now by clicking the big blue button below.

If this first webinar goes successfully, that will enable us to produce more of these 'gathering of great thinkers' for you in the future. We have great hopes for this new webinar platform, but how much we use it in the future will be a direct function of how many people like and attend these live events. So if you want more of these, please participate!

And if there are other speakers you'd particularly like to see in a future webinar, please let us know by contacting us here.

I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday for this important discussion.

Consider the timing

Good timing for those interested in keeping the public distracted as we pass another anniversary of the 9/11 false flag attacks (since that particular deck of cards is slowly collapsing in the court of public opinion).

North Korea is a Pentagon Vassal State (New Eastern Outlook)

Quote:

Who or better said, what is Kim Jong Un? Since the death of his father in 2011 Kim Jong Un has consolidated power as absolute dictator. In December 2011 Kim became Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army. His earlier history has been carefully hidden. It has been verified that he attended school in Europe at Liebefeld Steinhölzli school in Köniz near Bern. Accounts say he lived in Switzerland, under a false name, from 1991 until 2000. There he reportedly developed a prodigious taste for French Bordeaux wines, Yves St Laurent cigarettes, Swiss Emmenthaler cheese and luxury Mercedes autos according to Kim Jong-il’s former personal chef, Kenji Fujimoto.

While Kim’s extensive stay in Europe might or might not have been the opportunity for US intelligence to nurture some kind of contact, Kim’s deeds since taking control have been a godsend to the US role in disrupting Chinese as well as Russian relations with both North Korea and with South Korea as well as with Japan.

One of Kim Jong Un’s earliest indications of a major shift in foreign policy away from Beijing came when he ordered the arrest of his uncle for treason in December, 2013. Jang Sung-taek had been vice-chairman of the National Defence Commission, second only to that of the Supreme Leader and was “key policy adviser” to the politically inexperienced Kim Jong-un on the death of Kim’s father. More importantly, Jang was well-known as China’s best friend in Pyongyang.

As Washington moved to implement its new Asia Pivot military encirclement policies against China, removal of Beijing’s most influential friend in North Korea would be very convenient, to put it mildly.

Kim Jong Un not only had Jang executed, Jang’s wife, Kim Kyong-hui, the only daughter of former North Korean supreme leader Kim Il-sung, the only sister of former North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-il and the aunt of Kim Jong-un, a General in the army and Politburo member, was reportedly poisoned on orders of Kim, though no confirmation has been possible. What is known is that Kim ordered the systematic execution of all other members of Jang’s family including children and grandchildren of all close relatives. Those reportedly killed in Kim’s purge include Jang’s sister Jang Kye-sun, her husband and ambassador to Cuba, Jon Yong-jin, and Jang’s nephew and ambassador to Malaysia, Jang Yong-chol as well as the nephew’s two sons. At the time of Jang’s removal, the Kim regime announced, “the discovery and purge of the Jang group…made our party and revolutionary ranks purer …”

Clearly, Kim Jong Un was just the kind of dictator Washington’s warhawks could “do business with.”

Quote:

”The timing and effect of Kim Jong Un’s bizarre threats to wage war against South Korea and other states of the region, including Japan, as well verbal threats to strike cities on the US West Coast since 2013, fit too neatly into the geopolitical agenda of Washington, but not against North Korea. The agenda of Washington was aimed rather against China and the Russian Far East.”

North Korea Is "Begging For War": Haley Tells UN "The Time For Half-Measures Is Over" (ZeroHedge)

Quote:

”War is never something the United States wants, we don’t want it now, but our people’s patience is not unlimited.” – UN Ambassador Nikey Haley

When you consider who’s really running the show, perhaps what is really being said:

Quote:

”War is something the NeoCons/Israel want, we want it now, our patience is not unlimited.”

Bonus: Media has now introduced a “North Korea/EMP” didactic for the masses. Adjust accordingly.

Yes.

Yes for two reasons.

1) We are going to be using the older version which worked flawlessly for us in the past (while webinarjam continues to debug the kinks from their new version)

2) We are going to record the audio and the audio and the video by separate means on our end just in case.

That brings me to 'close to certain' as we can get.  Of course, something can always go wrong but we feel confident these steps get us the closest we can get to delivering on our end.

Is oil spiking from Irma or NK?

First, here's the NK news:

(Source)

Oil futures are spiking pretty strongly right now with WTIC up 3.2% and Brent up 1.3%

Based on this difference, I'd say the oil markets are digesting the possibility of a Cat 4 hurricane trundling through the Gulf of Mexico more than a possible war with NK.

To the list of troubles...Irma

First, check out this video if you want to know what a cat 5 hurricane sounds like on land.  To me it sounds like a jet with its engines spooled to max.

Next, the latest storm track puts Irma bringing the right quadrant eyewall (the most destructive portion) very close to Miami?

Consider Cui Bono

The original headline for this article has been pulled and replaced with "North Korea nuclear crisis: Putin warns of planetary catastrophe" (The Guardian). Original headline shown below.

Quote:

The row over further sanctions came as South Korea refused to rule out redeploying US tactical nuclear weapons on its territory – a move that could seriously harm efforts to ease tensions as signs emerged that Pyongyang was preparing to launch another intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on or around 9 September, when it celebrates its founding day.

Seoul has routinely dismissed the option of basing US nuclear weapons on South Korean soil for the first time since the 1990s, but the country’s defence minister, Song Young-moo, said “all available military options” were being considered to address the growing threat from North Korean missiles.

Kim Hyun-wook, a professor at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy in Seoul, said: “No one in South Korea is seriously proposing that the US reintroduce strategic assets [such as nuclear weapons]. That’s something they might discuss further down the line, but there are no plans for that to happen right now.”

So reading between the lines...basically, reintroducing strategic assets into South Korea is likely under serious consideration (assuming it hasn't been done "under the table" already).

If you remember the Cuban missile crisis, imagine that putting nukes in South Korea now is probably viewed by Russian and China similarly to how we viewed them being put into Cuba back then...shoe being on the other foot and all.

Israel Condemns North Korea's Nuclear Test, Calls for 'Decisive International Reaction' (Haaretz)

Quote:

Israeli foreign ministry urges North Korea to comply with Security Council resolutions and refrain from "developing weapons of mass destruction"

Israel condemned on Monday the hydrogen bomb test carried out by North Korea on Sunday, saying the test "is a continuation of the defiant conduct" of the country.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon said in a statement that "North Korea must comply with all of the Security Council resolutions and refrain from testing and developing weapons of mass destruction and the means to launch them."

"A decisive international reaction will prevent other countries from taking similar steps," he added.

Quick Hurricane Shelter Plans?

I have a co-worker whose athletic 23 yo daughter is now stranded on a small island in the path of Irma. Most of the primitive shelters of the island residents will blow down in 200 mph winds.  Ocean surge will sweep away many home in the lowlands.

Do any of you engineering types have a recommendation on how to build a quick survival shelter to preserve one's life during a hurricane on a Caribbean island?

Risks I imagine:

1.  Wind thrown debris

2.  Flooding of the shelter from rain and rain run-off.

3.  Ocean surge that sweeps over low terrain.

Is the wind direction in a hurricane constant?

Try this

I've been through 3 hurricanes, but none anything close to Irma.  Tell the procrastinating young lady to try this (it worked over Niagara Falls in 1901):

Quick hurricane shelter

Just some thoughts here:

#1:  Find a prestressed concrete structure above tidal surge levels, and get inside it.
#2:  Get above tidal surge levels+wave heights; get on downwind side; get inside a cave but not in an area subject to mudslides (if possible).  Dig a trench that ramps downward, and then fell tree logs across it; then stake the tree logs from moving.  Cover with rain protection, then tie down (pretty miserable).
#3:  Anything that can protect against tornados is also good against hurricanes.
#4:  Although you will be real bad off under a bridge, I kindof suspect that if you were to take some good heavy 4x4s and 2x4s, and go under a bridge (that is way above surge levels) between the girders, and nail in a flooring structure under that, so that you go up the abutment wall, then onto your now-installed wooden floor...  you'd have a good strong girder to your left, to your right, a good strong floor below.. you could even put in a temporary fake diaphragm as yet another wall..  and you'd have the abutment diaphragm behind you...  I think you'd be okay.  The girders are going to be either steel or concrete; and unless a tidal surge lifts the whole bridge, the bridge basically isn't going anywhere.  And with good protection all around, your floor isn't going anywhere.  Email me at rudmin dot mike at google-mail, if you take my drift, if you need a diagram.

Great job on the webinar, enjoyed it!

I tabled a question regarding the recognition of NK as a fellow nuke nation but in my rushed 20 words, translated though Adam, failed to deliver the question with sufficient context. However, I think it is a worthy enough issue to warrant expanding on here.

Notwithstanding that NK is clearly "a Nuclear Nation" at this time as Chris noted, world leaders appear to be in denial:

https://sputniknews.com/world/201709061057127671-russia-korea-nuclear-st...

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/politics/ct-north-korea-h...

An alternative Strategy to denial and fire and fury would be a somber recognition the Kim is in the Nuke fold and to begin discussing the responsibilities that come along with joining the club.

Each time I present this strategy to open minds,  the rebuttal is that "...but he is directly threatening the U.S.... "

A valid point maybe, but the vicious circle of threat and counter threat is clearly trending in the wrong direction and I do not see this changing without a major coordinated shift in policy from world leaders, resting on giving Kim want he wants and needs:

Recognition that his regime has joined the club and is now secure.

love to hear any thoughts and again, thanks for the webinar today

Structure

I would look for a tall (more than 2 story) building to protect against storm surge and flooding.  USUALLY* taller buildings are designed with the aid of real engineers and are either steel frames or masonry structures that should hold up RELATIVELY well under the stress of hurricane winds.  Have her look for something relatively modern - less than 10 years old - and perhaps corporate owned (deep pockets).  A larger hotel chain or similar enterprise may have the sophistication and design budget to ensure the building would survive a hurricane.  If nothing like that is available, go as far inland as possible and find a masonry structure.

Stay away from exterior walls and windows.  Keep a flashlight, food, and drinking water close.  Best advice this old contractor in hurricane country can give with this much information.

If you know the island, use google earth to find "higher" ground and newer structures for her.?

Thanks for structure advice on surviving a Cat 5 hurricane

Thank you Rector and Michael for your ideas.

Great idea about using the strength of a concrete and steel bridge to build a little shelter.

The first images out of Barbuda and some of the little islands are pretty grim.

Earthquake hits off the coast of southern Mexico (CNN)

Quote:

A strong earthquake hit off the coast of southern Mexico, near the border with Guatemala, the US Geological Survey reported Friday.

The quake, which was felt as far as Mexico City and Guatemala City, had a preliminary magnitude of 8.0 and depth of 33 kilometers (20 miles), according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
It struck off the Pacific Coast 74 miles (120 kilometers) southwest of Tres Picos, Mexico, which is 600 miles (1,000 kilometers) southeast of Mexico City.

A Tsunami threat is being evaluated by the Tsunami Warning System. The Tsunami Warning Center advised the public that tsunami waves could hit within three hours off the coasts of Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras and even Ecuador.

CNN attempted to contact two seaside hotels in the Mexican state of Chiapas, next to the border with Guatemala, but the lines appeared to be down.
