Nixon's revenge

I’ve given much thought, and burnt many a brain cell, in the past year or two trying to figure out what the next US currency will look like, and how we will get there. I believe we have been living through a deflationary period that will at some time in the near future turn into hyperinflation.

"The Confusion"

In Neal Stephenson's three-book series "The Baroque Cycle" he weaves a multi-threaded tale -- IMO, an excellent yarn -- the ultimate subject of which is the long-ago creation of the modern banking system (circa the 18th C).  It's not every day that a writer of Mr. Stephenson's brain power writes an enjoyable several thousand pages worth of tale for those that actually might find such a story interesting (much as he did for cryptology in "The Cryptonomicon").

Gold:Silver ratio Revisited

I'm starting this topic because I know we have many gold and silver investors on the site, and the the breakdown in correlation between gold and silver in the past few days clearly has great significance.

Exactly what the significance is... well, that's a much harder question. I basically see two very plausible arguments:

Debunking the Post-CFTC Precious Metals Fear Mongering Campaign

I have updated this article to incorporate feedback I've received, and have a final draft ready.

SteveW: I'm actually in strong agreement with you that this is [still] way too long! But my own motive for doing this was to debunk some misrepresentations, not to win a writing contest. If I had ambitions of being a professional writer, I'd certainly put more time into tightening this up and making it more concise, but I lack an incentive to do so. As [I think] Abraham Lincoln once wrote, "I apologize for writing you such a long letter. I did not have time to write a shorter one."

why are Silver sales soaring?

The U.S. Mint just reported another record, but this time it wasn't for gold. The Mint sold more Silver Eagles in March and in the first quarter of the year than ever before. A total of 9,023,500 American Silver Eagles were purchased in Q110—the highest amount since the coin debuted in 1986.

Gold, Silver, the CFTC and conspiracy therories

Not being much of a conspiracy theorist, last week’s hearing by the CFTC (Commodities Futures Trading Commission) on futures market trading for metals was a subject of some interest to me, but the news flow since that time has been rather remarkable – if for no other reason that none of the news seems to be flowing in the mainstream media.
In fact, a search at the Wall Street Journal on “Gensler” (CFTC Chairman Gary Gensler would surely be included in any report) produces only this one item from before the hearing.
