The importance of a strong community

My name is Gabor originally from Hungary, now living in Western MA, USA, and this post is about the importance of community, what I’ve learned in my efforts to build and add to my community, and seeks to open a dialog about what we really mean by “community” and what we might actually want from one.

Hard Work Up In Vermont/Rewarding Experiences

Hi folks,

While these days of prepping, or the long months and years of having hints about a grim future can sometime get us down, I just wanted to share the experience I had yesterday and how rewarding it was.  I am of a mind that society can and will recover from collapse and many things built today can be reworked, in a more positive way, in the future.  Hard work today doesn't have to mean it will be harder in the future.

Annual Scion Exchange Jan 24th @ 10am Santa Rosa Veterans Building - share/get fruit tree cuttings or get a fruit tree for $8

I have not been to one of these before but it sounds fantastic. I am copying info from posts on a Santa Rosa forum on Reddit.

Big event where you can get scions (aka cuttings) of interesting uncommon varieties that you can graft on to your existing fruit trees or rootstocks OR you can buy a rootstock there for a very small price ($3 or so) and have an expert graft your scion of choice for another small price ($5 or so).

If you want to help in a great global environmental project

I have recently been inspired by the activities of whatifwechange.org, which encourages people interested in investing and/or donating money in an international project that helps indigenous groups living in degraded land to understand the damage they have done to their local ecosystem by trying to continue their traditional way of life, eg by deforestation or over-fishing. Then, with co-ordination and financial compensation from the project, they start acting together to restore their land to productive functioning.

Tentative scheduled topics include Dan showing us his PV system installed two years ago and reviewing his results and insights as well as his Masonary Heater which has dropped his heating bills these past two winters. Simon will review the role of Ham Radio in resilient communications including a short tutorial on getting your $15 FCC license, getting started for under $100 and countywide emergency communications available to us.

Aquaponics

Hello! We are delighted to find this site, looks like a wonderful resource! Allow me to introduce us, my husband and I have been trying to make it affordable for poor people to thrive, without or without TEOTWAWKI. The best "food solution" we have found is aquaponics. Here is our first system:

We are not "experts" but we are happy to answer any and all questions that we can.

Disputing a Hospital Bill

I came across a short youtube video that walks a person through the basics of how to contest a hospital bill.
