City Living

Our aim is to help members survive within the city limits during a time with scarcity in energy, food and water.

With real estate prices rising, it becomes important to find new ways to save and prosper. I have also included a list of important links to help with understanding the new-age, digital world.

New products to improve the security of your doors

Doors are the most common points of entry for burglars and home invaders.  The fact is that most doors are designed to keep honest people out and are easily breached with one to three good kicks.  Rarely are tools needed to kick open a door, and burglars rarely bring the necessary tools because of that.  If I could only do two things to prevent or deter a burglary they would be: 1) install a monitored alarm system, and 2) fortify all your doors.  Below is an article reviewing door security hardware meant to be installed by homeowners.

New member from South Miami

We live, work and play in South Miami and truly enjoy it here.  We also enjoy our second home in Montana.  Interested in meeting other like minded neighbors to share ideas about a more resilient and increasingly self sufficient lifestyle.

I do not consider Miami survivable in the event of major social unrest and plan to panic early to avoid the rush getting out of town.  This sounds simply but not so easy when you think about it.

Thanks and I look forward to a quality discussion.

How would you have fared in this home invasion attempt?

Watch this home security video of a recent Philadelphia home invasion attempt and honestly ask yourself: If these guys had done the same thing at my house, how would it have turned out?  (Don't just read my description of the home invasion below, because that will only engage you intellectually.  Watching the video will engage you emotionally too, and you need that to properly learn from it.)

Time to batten down the hatches?

Michael Snyder, in his signature way, is advising readers to batten down the hatches regarding your safety based on recent developments.  I live in Philadelphia so I battened down my hatches a long time ago. However, just this week a began carrying a second spare Glock magazine on my belt and wearing a Kevlar vest TO CHURCH (mostly because of a "premonition" re: ISIS).  Trouble is brewing, but I'm not sure I see it the same way Snyder does.

Real world survival tips from Ukraine (via FerFAL)

FerFAL, author of Surviving the Economic Collapse, recently posted some very valuable survival tips on his website gleaned from people who are surviving in the current civil war in Ukraine.  There are numerous very valuable lessons we can learn from the survivors' accounts and advice, and we should learn them now vicariously before we have to learn them by personal experience in the "School of Hard Knocks."

Home invasion armed response on camera

In an apartment building, a crazed man kicks in his neighbor's door wielding a machete intent on killing the two people inside.  The resident locks his door but when the crazed, homicidal man kicks in his door he fires three shots from his handgun, putting an end to the danger.  The crazy neighbor with the machete lives and will now stand trial on serious charges.

Expats and the Uprooted

This group is for the uprooted, the expatriots, the unemployed, single or homeless and for those who would help us in our efforts to become resilient.

All of us will have to face the realities of failing markets at the same time, but we are not all on an equal footing to weather the storm. The prolonged economic recession has left many without the resources we need to prepare and without the ability to act upon much of the information available on Prosperity.

Buying Strategies

So, I'm almost ready on a psychological level to start owning precious metals. I have some questions still lingering, though, and I was hoping for opinions.
