New website

The new name "Peak Prosperity" is great!  Very positive, uplifting, and good future direction/goal.  I like the colors used (teal and gold) to differentiate areas and tabs.  The" Groups" will be a great resource.

The "FEEDBACK" tab on the left side often covers what I'm reading, so could it be moved somewhere else--maybe along other tabs, between "Prosper" and "Follow us"?

Thanks for all the work to get the new site launched!

Great Job Adam!

The new site was well worth the wait. Thanks for your super human effort to get this done, and don't worry about all those holes you punched in the wall during the migration process; a little sheetrock work and your office will be as good as new. wink

Best....Jeff

EXCELLENT!

I HATE change, but LOVE everything I've looked at so far, especially the new name.  It defines everything that CM has professed.

The new site looks great and I really like the uplifting message of Peak Prosperity.  Hopefully this site gets people to read and understand the information, and more importantly, act on it!!

Here's to a bright and prosperous future.

new site

The new site looks great.  I like the positive spin on the title.

I'd like to thank everyone involved in forming this site as well as all the people who post.  I've been reading the posts here on a regular basis since about 2008 when I began thinking about Peak Oil and how it would impact my family and my future.  I'm not an economist so many of the posts are a challenge to understand (I've learned more economics here than I ever learned in college!)  I'm also not a survivalist and always felt a little threatened by the people holed up in the forests with thier weapon stashes and twenty years of dried food.  I'm not really ready to go out and purchase weapons for a potential collapse of society because I'm not that sure I want to live in a world gone mad with guns and violence.

My husband andI have read a lot about Peak Oil over the last ten years and we have shared our thoughts with friends and families often enough that their eyes glaze over when we speak.  We have changed our own expectations and habits to try and limit our impacts on the world and to buffer ourselves, but in a real downturn we will be exposed to huge ramifications because we live near a large population center and military base.   We often feel paralyzed by our concerns...should we move now and rebuild in a less central location...should we leave the country....should we own a gun?  Meanwhile, most of our friends and family are living normal lives jetting around the world on vacation and not worrying at all about anything.  It makes me feel kind of crazy.  But this website has helped me to think though a lot of our concerns and it has helped me because I realize I'm not the only one who sees trouble ahead if we stay the current course.  Anyway...thanks for letting me introduce myself to the forum.

Looks great.

Looks great. I like the layout very much. I agree with the feedback tab comment above, move it to the other side. I'm an enrolled member of the old site, but get an "Access Denied" error trying to acces the forums. Not sure if they will remain read only and people should use groups, of if posting will be allowed. The info on the site seems to conflict.

I was hoping that when listening to an Insider Podcast one would be able to post a comment while listening, ala Youtube.

Awesome job! Love how you have pulled it all together. The more credible knowledge we can access the better we can prepare rationally for potential scenarios that may erupt during this highly volatile period in time. Thanks Chris! Your site is one of the better one's out there.

We hear you on the Feedback tab

Just letting you know we're listening to the feedback we receive very closely.

It sounds like for a number of folks, particularly those on iPads, the Feedback tab is getting in the way of the content.

We'll push a fix within the next few hours.

Please keep the feedback coming!

Basic Guide Available?

I think it would be nice to have a basic guide for users, like how to create forum topics, how to set up discussions, how to embed multiple videos from various sources, pictures, etc.

I'm glad to hear that tab issue will be fixed.  I commented on the need for that elsewhere.  But really dude, it could wait until you folks get some sleep. smiley  I'm sure the migration has been a bear, but the new site looks great.

Thanks

When I click a link in RECENT COMMENTS, it takes me to the first page of that discussion, seems it should link to the particular comment.

For example, if I click the ON THE ROADMAP link, it does not take me to Adam's post #12 above, it takes me to the top of the Tell us what you think of the new site 1st page.

In the RECENT COMMENTS section at the old site it indicated which discussion the recent comment was from, I found that helpful.

Thanks

That's strange, Denny. It's supposed to work they way you think it should (go directly to the specific comment), and it does for us when we test it out.

If you're still having trouble with this, PM me and we'll troubleshoot.

enrolled member content

I'm an enrolled member, logged on, seeing the Member Edition Homepage.

Don't see how to access Martenson Reports or Member Forums.

Under the DISCUSS tab, if I click the     Enrolled Members Only    link in the Enrolled Member Forums box, it does not link to forums, but to a somewhat promotional page.

Also, under the DISCUSS tab, if, at the bottom of the FORUMS section,  I click the      Forums main page       link or the blue FORUMS button, I am directed to an         Access denied You are not authorized to access this page     page.

Daily prep

I'm starting to find my way around the new site today.  It looks good and I'm excited to see how it develops, esp. the efforts to build community with local groups.

I suspect I will like the new Daily Prep section a lot.  When I just went there I was most interested in the piece on wells.  I clicked on that but didn't really get any information beyond the headline.  Is there supposed to be some link taking me to a story or article?  I'm thinking something is missing yet, or I'm not seeing what I should be clicking on for more information.

overall? A+

Still need to get used to the new format but I like it. Will comment more fully once I have gotten used ot the navigation. Honestly, at this point I have no idea if any "glitches" I find are more related to my unfamiliarity than the site's functionality.

So far the new site looks much more usefull and less intimidating to the newbies, though, methinks.

Firefox

Can any Firefox users see the site OK? I'm using FIrefox 13 on Ubuntu (a Linux system) and the new site came up without any styling or layout, basically just font changes and images, with the content all down the left half of the window.

On another browser, it came up OK but it looks like there is a minimum window size as the Feedback tab overlaps content below a certain window width.

New Site

I think the new layout is great. It's going to take some time to become proficient at navigating, but it will come. In a critical fashion, I would say that the main page is a little reminiscent of Business Insider and would probably benefit from the use of less blue. It almost looks too slick to be a functional and thriving website. I'm really hoping the feature to connect with local folks is successful. Great job!

I am using Firefox 12 and the layout looks good, same with my Android phone.  The only issue I see thus far is that the site doesn't keep me logged in for very long, so when I take a brief break and come back I find I am no longer signed in.  So far I have been able to access enrolled member material and off the cuff podcasts though, so I haven't experienced the same problem as robert, phfresno, wonka, or lnorris yet.  I am wondering if some of those issues are browser-related compatibility issues, or due to security or script-guarding programs (I made a point to "allow" the new site for NoScript on my computer).

Otherwise, so far the site looks great.  I am still poking around and such to get the feel for it, but I am liking what I see so far...  smiley

https on main page

I see that you responded to a request to secure the login with HTTPS but I think you may have done it too broadly.

After I logged in just now I got prompted because the main page contains un-secure content, which I assume means embedded links to HTTP pages.

I think you may wanto to investigate only putting HTTPS URL's for pages like the "enter logon" or "manage account".

I did not try to reverse engineer the web site.  It may be as simple as the URL link on the login page that returns to the main page specifying the link as HTTPS.

Not a big deal, but Chrome prompted me and then put a red line through HTTPS on the url in the browser navigation bar.

possible bad link on forums page

On the discuss page

https://www.peakprosperity.com/discuss

You have the public forums on the left and when you click them you go to the forum.  On the right you have the Enrolled Members Forum with the word "Enrolled" defined as a hyperlink.

It seems you should click that to go to the Enrolled Members Forum, but when I click it even though the site recognizes me as a logged in paid member it puts me to the page that I would use to enroll rather than taking me to the forum.  I think only non-paid members should get this page

New site

Slow to load, too many large pictures, and difficult to scan titles. Consequently takes too much time to retrieve articles of interest.

Sorry, have to give the new site a poor rating.

Use 'Contact Us' in footer for feedback

We'll soon replace this poll on the front page with new content. But we still want your feedback!

Please use the Contact Us link in the site footer (at bottom of every page) to continue to alert us to any features that aren't working as they should. Categorize your submission as "Feedback" to help us notice it even more quickly.

Thanks!

My thoughts so far

My thoughts so far ...

Constructive criticism:

Above all, I am disappointed the enrollment process has not worked for me. I have used three different payment methods and none of them work. These are payment methods I have used before, one of which I use often. So, it’s not me. In addition, finding where to click so I could enroll was not as easy as it should be. Unless I am mistaken, the only one-click method I saw to enroll is the link at the very bottom of the page in the footer. I was shocked that I couldn’t find it at the top of site, such as next to the register tab, for example. I highly suggest you make the enrollment process easier to find and bug free. (I used the contact form to submit my payment issue.)

The intro video states the user can click on the crash course chapters at the top of the video screen or top of the screen. The chapters don’t show in my browser. I use firefox. To navigate the chapters, I must continuously navigate backwards to find the next chapter after the current chapter has finished. I think you intended to be able to have all the chapters accessible on the same page as any given chapter video. Wise to do this, but it doesn’t seem to be working.

Smaller user-friendly issues are that terminology to navigate to content isn’t clear. Examples I have found so far are getting back to the home page area from the “Prepare” area, using the acronym “WSID”, and using “Featured Voices” instead of “Featured Podcasts.”

Things I like:

The way users are the center of the web site is terrific. I can’t express enough how appreciative I am and agree with this move. Peak Prosperity truly feels like a service for the people. I am looking forward to creating a group in my geographical area and using the topical groups to learn more about everything resilience.

I like the way you’ve used modules to organize everything. The organization is generally good. I think there are a few things that can be better organized but considering the site is new and you have an enormous amount of content to display and objectives to meet, you have done a wonderful job.

Thank you for all you do. I hope to be an enrolled member soon!

Good feedback, Eric

Eric -

Great feedback. Very thoughtfully presented.

Here are responses relevant to several of your points:

  • We're working feverishly on the enrollment process, which is not working as planned. We encountered an unforseen and quite complex issue when we launched the site. We *think* we're close to solving it. But there is some good news here: you are able to enroll by using the PayPal option on the checkout page.
  • In our design process, we had a number of discussions about presenting an "Enroll" button at the top of each page. We'll revisit that again based on your feedback.
  • We have an improved interface for navigating across the Crash Course chapters. It hasn't been released yet because we're occupied with getting the enrollment process working correctly. Once it is, we'll roll out the new interface soonafter. I don't have an exact ETA yet, but hopefully it will be no longer than a week until the new interface is available.
  • You've probably already learned this, but you can return to home page from the Prepare area several ways, including clicking on the home icon at top left, or clicking the "Prosper" tab at the far right of the header navigation.

Nuke the Auto Log Out

Auto log out!!!!!!  You guys have to fix this - I spent the better part of an hour composing a reply post only to have it disappear when I tried to post it because I had been logged out.

I doubt I am the first member to comment on this.

It's a minor inconvenience - the new site looks outstanding!!

I tried several times and confirmed I was still logged in and had no success.

Loss of data, auto log out, feedback form, mp3 vs mp4

I also hate the auto-logout.  It appears the timeout is less than an hour.  I also had typed in a long message only to get it nuked - I believe by having the session tossed.  I was not a very happy camper. angry

I also was getting bounced mail fron various contact us and report a problem links.  I sent Amanda and Adam e-mails about it (if you didn't get them let me know).  It's tough to send feedback when the feedback link is broken. crying

Also, the podcasts (off-the-cuff) are now MP4 instead of MP3, which doesn't play well with the Android player's (won't let you turn off the screen and listen since it assumes it's video). Also the filesizes are 3-4 times bigger.  Please go back to mp3.

When you click on a user and get taken to their profile page, there is no link to send them PM, at least I didn't see one that was obvious.

I'm adding these here, just in case they went into the ether with the feedback/email issue.

Site looks great and as with any roll out there are always surprises.  wink

Please add Forum topic to Recent/Popular comment synopsis

I just noticed something else, under "Recent Comments" and "Popular Comments", the short synopsis shows the "Subject" from the poster, the posters user name, age of comment, but it doesn't show the "Forum topic" like the old site did.   It was much more useful with the topic since the subject from the poster is often not very descriptive.

I also think the recent/popular comments sections should be a bit larger (double?).  It's nice to see if someone has posted to a recent topic that your interested in and only 4 comments doesn't show much without having to click more - also a lot of white space at the bottom of those boxes.  Perhaps smaller font, remove the icons (not exactly sure what they are telling me), something else...

You can just clear some cookies....

It's possible (at least under Firefox) to clear only some cookies.  Under the preferences tab, then privacy, you can select "remove individual cookies".  Then put in "Chris" in the search box and clear out all the cookies for ChrisMartenson.com, then put in "Peak" and clear out all the cookies for the new site.

That way you don't loose all your other login cookies for other sites.

Adam, for a brief bit there was a tab at the top of the page "More Stress Is Needed", that went to a page with a quote from Alice in Wonderland.  Were you hacked or was someone just experimenting?  It might have only been on the "Guest" version, since I don't see it now that I'm logged in.
