ROV captures allegedly taken early morning 07/16/10 (after the leak was reported to have been stopped).

Check out the threads on the BP blowout for the last two days on The Oil Drum. These have been discussed and dismissed by people who know what they are seeing and what they are talking about. Most of the things that look like leaks are brief swirls caused by the props on the ROVs. There has so far been no evidence of leakage since the blowout was shut in.
One has to wonder why he keeps going on about the other gusher. Is he an absolute blithering idiot or is there some likelihood of his being right?
I personally lost respect for Simmons' knowledge and dismissed him as a blithering idiot early in the blowout discussion. He clearly didn't have a clue what he was talking about regarding what was going on. I'm very close to the action on this.
More than 27,000 abandoned oil and gas wells lurk in the hard rock beneath the Gulf of Mexico, an environmental minefield that has been ignored for decades. No one - not industry, not government - is checking to see if they are leaking, an Associated Press investigation shows.
The oldest of these wells were abandoned in the late 1940s, raising the prospect that many deteriorating sealing jobs are already failing.
Matt Simmons talks about using a nuke to stop the leaks. Says all that methane is going to make people ill and the hurricanes could be a disaster. BP exec's should go to jail for gross negligence. This is the worst oil disaster in history!
