Program on Flemish Public Radio about conditions in Spanish hospitals
On flemish public radio last week there was this short piece (3 mins):
A flemish gynaecologist who works in hospital near Barcelona said that every month they received an email which would state whether they would be paid that month or not. Last year their salary was reduced by 5 percent and next year the same reduction would probably take place. The officials tell them each time that there is no money to pay them. In one hospital in Barcelona the patients were told that they would have to bring their own food, this happened last year. On the gynaecology ward the new mothers now had to bring their own diapers (or pay for them) for the newborns. In the past these would have been provided for free.
Care and stays in a hospital in Spain are free at the moment, but this doctor expected that this would have to end in the future.
In northern europe the patient does have to pay a contribution for care and a stay in hospital, though.
