question about border crossings/policies when SHTF

I realize that collapse scenarios are not always pandemonius or marked by a clear signal that things are definitely not business as usual- but presuming that it is,  does anyone have any knowledgeable insight on what is expected at border crossings and ports/airports, particularly US/Canadian and US/Mexico borders?  Any historical precedents worthy of comparison?  I live in Windsor, right across the river from Detroit.

question about SHTF scenario in Eastern Europe

My wife is from Romania.  We had an interesting discussion last night, where she pointed out some things which now convince me that they are amongst the most "collapse ready" societies in the world:  most Romanians carry no debt, keep most of their savings in cash hidden in their homes, don't use plastic, don't use cheques, are very very self sufficient.  Extremely agrarian, everyone has small gardens or at least knows many people who do.  Recently experienced all forms of SHTF, hyperinflation, dictatorship, banks collapsing/taking off with the money.  While this ha

Managing the collapse

Peak Oil, Peak Credit, and Peak Problem!

We can't "make" more of it, from what?

Yes we can.

There is no limit to the amount of oil we can manufacture.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthetic_oil

We can pump it faster but that just compounds the issue; there are two known possible sources thermal depolymerization and conversion of sequestered Carbon dioxide with hydrogen into methanol then to gasoline.

Essential reading -- Charles Hugh Smith's Survival +: Structuring Prosperity for Yourself and the Nation

Is anyone familiar with Charles Hugh Smith's Survival +: Structuring Prosperity for Yourself and the Nation? He details many of the topics covered in the Crash Course -- peak oil, resource depletion, financial insolvancy (national + personal). He has posted a free abridged version of the book on his website: http://www.oftwominds.com/Survival/survival-plus-free.html

Highly recommended.
